  1. seen them live a few times, and the audience was very entertained. BD expects to be disliked by a lot of people. It is part of being so successful... And BOOING is just plain obnoxious and shows an incredible lack of taste. But, even booing has been defended on this forum as long as it is directed at the "judges" that must have been crazy to award BD a win.
  2. No one is unbeatable. BD is the best right now, and that angers a lot of people. But, still, we are talking about fairly young people and as talented as they are, they can be beaten. We will have to see if Crown steps up to the task, but don't expect BD to slow down. Not going to happen.
  3. Just one more point. I, as a BD fan, live in Northern CA, where we have very little to celebrate in terms of any kind of winning. (the giants don't count, or at least rarely count.)We only have the weather going for us. so Please forgive us when we actually get behind a winner. Said with tongue in cheek. That means good natured sarcasm for those from Rio Linda.
  4. agreed. Not sure really where the fault lies, but it was not with any corp. I need to write a little more clearly.
  5. The lights not working was not the fault of the corps, but the fault of the organizers. And it was avoidable and stupid. BTW< they finally got them working about an hour too late.
  6. want some cheese with that whine? Did I detect some sour grapes? You may not "dislike" BD, but your post certainly shows a healthy dose of disrespect and sarcasm. BTW, BD, SCV and Regiment are going head to head a lot this year, certainly early in the season. How is that working out for you? I saw them a few times. I have to check the recaps for the scores to see who won.
  7. Should be a great year. In fact, I find open class more exciting than world. And, we get to the open compete in world just after finals. Things are very close in this race. Multiple corps can win, makes for a fun summer
  8. There you go again. Please refrain from using logic on this forum. Just emote your feelings. Then you can fit in better.
  9. And, they had 2 shows cancel. 1) for lights... A terrible reason, the other, 2) Rain... The question is will it hurt them?
  10. another truism on DCP. A BD complaint in every thread. Try to stay on topic. The thread is about the Cavies.
  11. My sons being in it. I have made around 48 shows in the last 6 years.
  12. Welcome to the place where you can find instant criticism. Hope that your skin is pretty thick. Back to your original point. Are feeders or younger corps a good thing? Quick answer, in other activities, YES. Soccer, Baseball, basketball, Football, Tennis, Swimming, Hockey etc... Basically, you groom a ton of new fans, and get some good people that go on as well. I doubt that your original point was to argue HOW to do this best, but rather, is it a good idea. In marketing, we would like to reach our target audiences as early as possible. Sometimes, that is really early as in McDonald's case, and sometimes, not so good for society as in the case for Beer commercials. But, the value of establishing an early fan base or an early customer base is pretty clear. I have yet to see DCI apply much in the way of decent marketing principles, so I am not so sure that your idea will fly. But, from a marketing perspective and the perspective of growing the fan base, the idea has merit. Still has to be judged against the costs etc... but has merit. BTW, for SCVC and BDB, I believe the management for the open class corps is different than that of the world class corp.
  13. Your comment ranks right up there with the comment that 3rd graders could march their 2010 show. Amazing how upbeat people can be about multiple company fronts, shows that simply hold a form, and forget that marching at 240 is somewhat challenging. I like Cadet show, wish them the best, but comments like this remind me that ignorance is bliss. Bring on the hate! BTW, the judges scored that show over 80 last weekend, over some pretty good competition (Phantom and SCV). I guess that all DCI judges are on Gibbs staff. For the record, I like Cadets show this year. Not sure how Christmas in Aug will relate, but again, those idiot judges seem to like the show a lot. Guess that they are on Hoppy's staff as well...
  14. Blue Devils and Cadets. I have not seen the east coast shows yet, except for Phantom, and only saw cadets on the fan network.
  15. You are likely right, but again the west coast gets screwed. Sure glad that no professional sports would do something like this to its fan base. And what about the extra costs for our corps here? This has been hashed to death, and no one at DCI gives a flying fart about it.
  16. have to agree with you. When my sons quit marching, I will never return to Indy for DCI. And if all we get out here are the first couple of shows of the year, I will stop supporting drum corp except for my corp. The shows change so much during the season that they are almost a different product later on. The move to Indy will cost DCI fans in the long run. Hope they save enough money to keep afloat... But bad marketing decisions usually cost the companies making them. In this case, DCI and all of the corp members.
  17. 1) Expense. Plane tickets are around $400, + a car and hotel (motel 6 is around $50 a night) 2) Distance. Driving is around 34 hours. Not an option 3) Indy sucks. I have been there for a few finals, and for business reasons. I would NEVER go there on vacation or on a personal trip. Even San Antonio has the River Walk, the large water park, and the Alamo. Indy in August... BTW, I am not so sure that DCI cares much about the fans anyway. Maybe they want to give local people a new way to spend their money. But as a fan, the venue is not attractive enough to warrant more than a single visit. Unfortunately, as a fan, the only decent way to enjoy a show is in person.
  18. Hi there,I am not sure about how much Indy spends on tourism outreach. In Ca, you never hear about them, except for the football team and the race. In fact, Indy is hard to get to, (read that very few direct flights), and I am not certain that they have any real tourist sites or even business sites that are year round. Likely, it is about the money, and hopefully, personal finances do not enter into the picture. Certainly, it is NOT about growing fan participation. If it were, they should take a look at pro football, or any other fan based business. I don't see any real social outreach, no social marketing... Just pathetic. My comment is to focus on the customer/consumer, and the rest eventually will fall into place.
  19. I will add in my thanks! You guys helped make the night special... Best of luck for the rest of the season
  20. agree 100%! thanks to those corps that made the trip!!
  21. Hi Scott, thanks. The other very real issue is that LOT of fans got screwed. There were no refunds, no show, no scores, etc... Apologies to PR for coming so #### far, and then we fail to have a show due to a venue issue. To my knowledge, it has been decades since DCI was at Sac State. But DCI has failed the fans once again. But, I can hear it now. "Who cares? These are just West Coast fans, and Lord knows that they do not deserve any better. In fact, we should just cancel the west coast shows, and make this an east coast activity." I traveled 120 miles each way, paid for 4 tickets, and did not get to see the corps that were headlined. DCI should be ashamed of itself and should have refunded all of the gate receipts (or offered free passes to another show), like a decent sporting event.
  22. works for me. I was actually enjoying a thread without this kind of asinine commentary. Please don't watch anymore BD shows, and then refrain from commenting on them. it is unnecessary.
  23. Having been there and seen all the shows, for world, only one show was unique and captured my attention. Nice show BD. The others were predictable, and somewhat boring. Unfortunately, they seemed to run together much like a rock concert. The BD show was unpredictable, fun, and different. I admit that i needed an explanation for the horses, but I needed explanations for Picasso and some of the rather odd books I had to read in English. This is going to be an interesting race. However, anything can happen and I have not seen all the shows yet.
