  1. Ugh! Did you have to bring up his name? 🙄 '82 was a very rough year.
  2. A Jimmy Buffett tribute show would be perfect for Jersey Surf. Their shows have that fun vibe that captures the spirit of Jimmy Buffett.
  3. "I heard a rumor...they say you've got a broken heart. I heard a rumor...yes I did, boy."
  4. WTF! Is this something that really happened over the years at SCV? That's brutal!
  5. The Blue Stars put themselves in a pretty difficult spot for 2024 with their show, this year, and 11th place finish. Everyone else went up in placement and smart show design while the Blue Stars took a risk and it failed...well, it was just enough to keep them in finals. Troopers, Colts, and all those above them are going to be the destination corps. A corps that went form 7th all the way down to 11th probably isn't going to be on the list of the types of members the Blue Stars need to move back up the ladder. Show design needs to be smarter and achievable right out of the gate. Again, I understand the Blue Stars...especially the guard caption...loves to challenge their members; but there needs to be balance between challenge, achievement, and sustainability. Refinement and editing need to be looked at as well. Stuff for the sake of stuff is nothing more than clutter. Things have to have reason or last something the judges and fans can appreciate. There needs to be more impact points. A lot of people have mentioned over the course of the summer that the Blue Stars show was very flat with no peaks, valleys, and moments that just captured the audience and made them stand up. I'm still not sold on the percussion caption, either. It's been a rotating door of ineffective hires. In summary, every area needs to be addressed if the corps wants to move back up; if not, they will just be treading water at the bottom of the Top 12 and eventually drop out. Unlike 2012; if they drop out, again, it's going to be quite difficult for them to make it back in. They have quite the workload in front of them. To be honest, I have more belief in SCV returning to the field, next year, than the Blue Stars doing what it takes to fight their way back up to 7th, 6th, or maybe 5th (pipe dream placement).
  6. Was there a bit of Chicago's "Beginnings" in the Bluecoats show?
  7. That was a thought and a plan; but the movements, shake-ups, resignations, and firings usually start the Monday after finals. Sometimes the tremors of change begin during or a little before finals week.
  8. Black Monday and pink slip week. Let the drama begin!
  9. So, is the OP going to post his anger on the Genesis thread for their lighthearted show intro, today?
  10. The soundtrack from The Last Voyage of the Demeter would have fit in quite well with Boston's show this year.
  11. Yeah, The Blue Stars may be having a rough go of it, this year; but they are still good enough for a finals spot. I don't see them dropping below 11. If they do, the work that needs to be done for 2024 needs to start, pronto.
  12. One thing you never want to read about it low morale. Apparently there is a some of that going around the corps with their drop in placement during the past week. I'm sure starting the season with really high hopes, dreams, and expectations took a toll as the show never really went anywhere. I feel bad for the members. They deserved better.
  13. 2015's Sideshow was a slopshow. That was a visual and musical hot mess! The issue is, when is the design team (individual *wink, wink*) going to learn? The corps has been down this road numerous times. Take a step in the right direction and then fall way back and have to start the rebuilding process all over again.
  14. It was definitely a lot different. Amazing what a short drum corps season can do with a lot of unexpected surprises.
  15. Heading into finals week...here we go! 1. Blue Devils 2. Boston Crusaders 3. Carolina Crown 4. Bluecoats 5. Cadets 6. Mandarins 7. Phantom Regiment 8. Cavaliers 9. Troopers/Colts 10. Troopers/Colts 11. Blue Stars 12. Crossmen
  16. Sooooo, what do school schedules have to do with the Blue Stars currently sitting in 11th place? ...Just a note. The Crossmen put up quite a score, last night, and 12th place isn't too far behind 11th place, now. Dropping from 7 to 11...maybe 12...should serve as a wake up call that instruction and show design isn't working. It seems like there is more going on than just a one year, we had a concept and it didn't work, show.
  17. The difference with those corps and the Blue Stars is execution and smart design. The way those shows ebb and flow from beginning to end with highs, lows, impacts, etc is very clear. While the Blue Stars show appears cluttered and in a constant state of "where am I supposed to watch?" those corps have effectively utilized their props and drill cohesively. In addition, their shows aren't overwritten and the members are being challenged; but in away to allow for growth and achievement. Simply saying, "The Blue Stars have one of the hardest shows on the field and they aren't being rewarded for it" is a lame sense of reasoning. Content scores only go so far during a season; if the execution isn't there, so goes the growth of the show and the score. Yes, corps should challenge their members; however, it has to come with smart design and material that will allow for achievement and growth. The Blue Stars are not clean and aren't getting much better; one of the reasons why they are sitting in 11th place, currently. The guard book is way overwritten for the talent level of the members in the section. Moreover, when you have a caption head and an assistant caption head gone since San Antonio...no wonder why the music scores are lagging behind the competition. I fully understand the commitments instructors and caption heads have outside of drum corps; but if you don't have somebody in the chain of command that can run the ship while the leadership is away, then that caption is going to suffer. The percussion has been an ongoing issue since Mapes and Grom left the corps. It's going to be interesting to see what happens with the corps after finals. Lots to discuss. The comments have been very insightful and pretty much what everyone has been thinking.
  18. ...and all the pity-party drivel about "DCP hates the Blue Stars" and "The fans hate the Blue Stars" is simply not true. It's how the corps constructs its shows that DCP, DCCS, the fans, followers, etc have issues about. Again, a lot of people were hoping the Blue Stars would have capitalized on their 7th place finish, last year, by competing for a 5th or 6th finish and it didn't even come close. That can't be pinned on the members. They are doing the best they can with what they were given. Again, there is a lot to go over and that will be mentioned when the season is done.
