  1. As a BD former MM (long time ago) and BD homer I just want to say congratulations to Bloo on a great show, a great season, and so many great performances. You are a classy organization and will definitely have many opportunities to claim the gold, which I'm sure you'll do again very soon. And BD will be there to make sure you earn it! Congrats on an amazing season!
  2. BD showed some serious swagger tonight. They always look like such pros out there.
  3. They'll turn off the Ghostlight and when they do, all the lights in the stadium will go off, too.
  4. We tried that back in the '70's but the wafros really don't whip.
  5. Interactive is the buzz word now. DCI is very "here is the performance and we will tell you about it what to think". Offering an audience more immediate feedback, with judges/commentators talking about shows right after they happen is the way people interact with entertainment now. So, Boston [for instance] performs, then commentators (a mix of various DCI-experienced, famous-and-qualified-performers-etc.) offers some feedback (live at stadium or on the live feed) and perhaps some opportunity for viewers to respond). The feedback loop is too long and formal now. Most of this thread (and DCI) if focused on who wins finals. DCI would benefit from making other contests feel also important, and more interactivity can only help.
  6. Heywood doesn't want anything to do with Hugh. He's moving into costume design and will be joining forces with Seymour Butts.
  7. Attack? Its called reporting. The report seems certain to be about a youth activity knowingly allowing sexual predators to participate. I'd call that necessary attention, not an attack.
  8. Much as I hate it, DCI should really be working with communications professionals on this. No matter the circumstance, refusing to talk to the reporter on a story like this looks really really really really really bad. Someone who knows how to deal with the media would also know how to respond to the possibilities you've mentioned. Acheson's response seems entirely reactive, and DCI needs to be proactive both in directly addressing all the problems coming to light, and in their communications strategy about these issues. Its not clear they are accomplishing either of these goals with the current stonewalling and CYA'ing.
  9. Figure out how NOT to screw West Coast fans (oh, I forgot, its all way too hard for easterners and midwesterners since they are so weak).
  10. I should be more explicit. DCI takes west coast drum corps fans for granted. I don't give a f#ck if they stay in Indy, but they need to change the tour so we can see something closer to a complete show. Now you will all tell me how harrowing it is for east coast corps to change what they do, which only reinforces my point. DCI takes west coast fans for granted.
  11. And it must be great to have that for over 20 years in a row. And I'm sure you understand why those of us from other parts of the country feel like DCI doesn't give a crap about our experiences.
  12. Back in the Jurassic Period, Jack Meehan told us a story about "finishing" a show. He saw a PBS program (this was back when you were more of a nerd if you watched PBS) about an Indonesian man who carved elaborate wooden doors. The interviewer asked him how he knew when a door was finished. He said "When they take it away from me". In other words, the show is never done, they just run out of opportunities to further perfect it.
  13. All they do is sit at the bar. Oh wait, that's the BD alumni.
  14. I haven't seen anywhere near the number of shows you have seen, but this one was the only one I saw in early season and thought "Everyone else is toast, this show is awesome".
