  1. Bridgemen - 1980. They pulled off their uniforms with Alabama and Auburn football uniforms underneath. The crowd went nuts. 27th Lancers - 1981 They repeated the arc compression from the opener. Very in-your -face. SCV - 1982 Surprise bottle dance. Crowd reaction was so loud the corps members couldn't hear each other and the show ended a full count apart. Star - 1990. That company front seemed to have come from out of the blue. Star - 1991 Cross to cross. nuf said. Cadets - 1992 -Surprise reverse Z-pull.
  2. Great article. Marched with Memphis Blues in Lacrosse many years ago. We also did a parade there. Great fans and super enthusiastic crowd as I remember. But I also remember we froze our b*tts off in those cold basement showers of the school that hosted us. brrrrrrrrrr
  3. I love it.... certainly NOT boring. I get so tired of the same mass produced junk that we see nowadays. But it does remind me a little of something Bea Arthur might wear. LMAO
  4. I watched their show on the site we do not speak of and really liked it. Recognizable music, battery is tight already, color guard actually looks like it belongs on the same field as the rest of the corps and the concept is understandable. Just a hint of the old Guardsmen.
  5. I looked at that today on the site we do not speak of and boy did Cavies look bad compared to Cadets. At this point last year Cavies were 12 points ahead of Spirit instead of just 5.
  6. Les Chatelaines de Laval 1981. So weird and unique. Plus their use of chairs were far superior to that of Blue Devils last year. I would love to see video of their performance. In case you have never heard of them.. they won the all girl division and were from the Montreal area.
  7. I heard that Blue Devils guard will be pushing the hornline around in wheelchairs.
  8. Quit F...ing around.... I need scores!!!!!!!!!!
  9. Brass - Crown Drums - Cadets Visual - Cavies GE - Will tell the tale as usual.
  10. Was just thinking the same thing, but couldn't remember the years. All I could think of was when the Blue Devils should have been called the Gray Devils. Luckily it didnt last too long.
  11. Wouldnt it be great to have DCI back on PBS. Maybe even live!!! I know it wont happen but one can dream. Even when most of the country was still getting it live the crappy PBS station here in Houston ran old Lawrence Welk reruns.
  12. That is a beautiful stadium. From the pic it looks like it would have really great views from everywhere and isnt as broken up at Lucas. I might make it back to finals. Havent been since Denver 04 and cant wait for the event to get back outside where Drum Corps belongs.
  13. Bridgemen - 1978. Great comeback after being disqualified the year before. 27th Lancers - 1981. The ultimate classic drum corps show. Cadets - 1984 - Cemented the new direction of motion and musicality. Phantom Regiment - 1989. Sorry SCV, but this show was simply better. Wish PR would do this one again. Star of Indiana - 1993. Nothing like this was done before or since. It is appreciated more and more with every viewing. Jaw-dropping. That's my opinion and I am sticking to it! At least for a few minutes.
  14. This sounds like a great(dare I say "traditional") concept. I may have issues with the director, but I am really excited to see this show.
  15. This is GARBAGE. It is produced by a bunch of people who are bored with Drum Corps as it is and want to change it. They should move on. If you want to know why drum corps is in trouble look no further than DCI management itself. They have made so many critical errors in the past decade that it is amazing fans still manage to make it to shows at all. Constant rules changes, instrumentation, amplification, overpriced tickets, overpriced dvds and worst of all venue selection have made it clear to me that management needs to go. The best promotional tool DCI ever had was the telecast. (please no excuses about cost) money doesnt seem to be an issue when more crap is added to the pit every year. I marched in the early 80's. The dues we paid to march were reasonable. But they have become so high that the activity has become limited to kids who have parents with deep pockets. You can forget about diversity. Corps used to be a symbol of local pride in communities, but the location is no longer even mentioned when the corps are announced in competition. Remember... most of the funding is still raised by the corps where they are based. Can you imagine the olympics if no one knew the nationality of the competitors? I have a proposal: A complete moratorium on all changes for 5 years. Let the members, fans and alumni catch up with where the activity is now. Plus corps might become more financially stable by not having to spend so much money to keep up the the changes. It would allow for a better analysis and understanding of where we are and where we need to go. Forgive me for rambling a bit, but this latest proposal is simply too much. I have attended or performed in drum corps every year since 1977 and want to be able to continue to enjoy an activity that I still recognize.
  16. There is just something about that arrangement of Crown Imperial that still gives me chills. Add the guard doing perfect drop spins with those tri-color flags, killer drum line, and balls to wall hornline and you have the recipe for a corps that is still loved decades later.
  17. Does having an "identity" mean playing Malaguena EVERY OTHER YEAR?
  18. Austin is bigger than Madison. So size wouldnt be the issue. But are certainly right about the heat.
  19. I was so happy to see the Troopers back and better than ever. That being said I LOVED the Colts show. The theme was incorporate so well and the music arrangements were great. But I do think that Troopers were a little cleaner and that probably made the difference. I really liked The Academy and I think if championships would have been week later they would have made finals. When I saw them in Houston my opinion was that the show was unbelievably dirty and there was no way they could clean it up....... But they worked hard and the result was great. I would like to pose a question in regard to Blue Knights and Troopers both in finals. Is there enough talent for these two corps to recruit from in that part of the country? I know that camps are done in other places but the majority of members are still local. Love to hear some thoughts on this.
  20. As soon as I saw the word "elegant" Phantom 1991 came to mind. Each beautifully performed musical phrase was matched by an equally beautiful visual. Particularly during the opening moments of Nessun Dorma with the flowing arcs and semi-circles. Still gives me goose-bumps. A few others come to mind. Carolina Crown.... end of Bohemian Rhapsody. - 2004 Cavaliers....... move into 007 - 2004 27th Lancers..... form float at the end of Danny Boy-1980 Cadets....... Dissolving company front 1987 Bridgemen..... Block movement before William Tell - 1978
  21. 27th Lancers.. Crown Imperial. Any of the years they did it. Only saw it live in 1981 personally. I just love the way it builds. Would love to hear Crown(or anyone else realy) do it again.
  22. This may be a bit off topic. We are paying a lot of attention to Crown faltering a little, but look at the moves being made by Santa Clara. Only 0.7 behing Cavies. A lot of us were writing them off at the beginning of the season because what we thought was a smiplistic show. But the show has always had the potential for great emotional impact. KEEP YOUR EYES ON SCV!!!
  23. If you want to see an effective use of chairs see if you can find a tape of Les'Chatalaines de Laval. It was an all girl corps that kicked ### at the Championships in Montreal. Just a little reminder that the chairs weren't exactly an original idea.
