  1. This is what Conspiracy Keanu has to say about the situation....
  2. It will matter a lot to some of Crown's percussion staff - because I suspect that some of them will be picking up pink slips on Monday morning. This is still a competitive activity, and if you cannot produce W's, you're gone. I don't know if the Crown board needs to go George Steinbrenner, and fire the whole lot of them. But when you cost your corps a championship, there has to be repercussions.
  3. I plan on spending Saturday night watching my favorite BD shows of the past - 1976, 1980, 1984, 1986, 2003. I know there is 0% chance that any of BD's management reading this thread (or any part of DCP at this point.) But wouldn't we rather just hear them play a mix of Channel One Suite, Legend of the One Eyed Sailor, La Fiesta, and One More Time Chick Corea? They could probably do that every year, and win every year - and it would be 300% more entertaining than the shows they do now.
  4. I created an even funnier meme here: Crown Loses Again.
  5. Maybe you could send Jeff Prosperie a giant basket of fruit, or a Candygram or something. Because unless he gives your percussion line a generous score - in fact, a very generous score - you have zero chance of winning tomorrow night. Zero. (Of course, a Candygram may not be the best idea; it may turn out like )
  6. "And then there were two" is not accurate. "And then there was one" is accurate. BD will win tomorrow night. Crown is finished. They're fried chicken. They're Julius Caesar. If you're looking for some sort of a miracle tomorrow night - or a complete collapse by BD - forget it. Just move on with your lives. Crown really should clean house in their percussion caption, and bring in a completely new staff. Because the current staff is costing them a title - and that is outrageous. I would be absolutely furious right now, if I was their director. (Could you imagine Hopkins under similar circumstances? His head might explode.)
  7. They can't make up that 1 point gap in the percussion score - not in the next 48 hours. Not going to happen. That will cost them the title. They're finished. They're toast. Put a fork in them - they're done. Better luck next year.
  8. I would hate to be these guys, from Crown's staff: Percussion Staff Zach Schlicher (Caption Supervisor) Thom Hannum (Percussion Coordinator / Arranger) Andrew Markworth (Arranger - Front Ensemble / Supervisor) Ian Hale (Front Ensemble Asst. Supervisor) Steve Ballard (Front Ensemble Tech) Mike Bishop (Front Ensemble Tech) Garret Scharton (Front Ensemble Tech) Derek Smith (Front Ensemble Tech) Sharif Mamoun (Snare Tech) Nick Arce (Tenor Tech) Eric Kraft (Bass Tech) Alex King (Bass Tech) Glenn Crosby (Percussion Consultant) Chad Wyman (Percussion Staff Coordinator) The pressure on them for the next 48 hours will be incredible. Your corps has a shot to win its first title ever - and your caption is costing the corps the title. Either they find a way to squeeze another half a point out of that line - or it is over. It's going to be a long bus ride back to Fort Mill. Heck, if I were them, I wouldn't want to get on the bus.
  9. If you finish 7th in percussion, you don't deserve a title. Period.
  10. I highly doubt that. I think they're finished. Their percussion line is going to cost them another title. Really too bad. Better luck next year.
  11. I guess we won't be seeing one Mr. JJ Pipitone this year? Hmmmm..... I guess that neither BD nor Cadets wanted him around, after what happened in 2008 and 2009.
  12. For those of you who have no idea who The Bridgemen were, they once brought out the San Diego Chicken for one of their shows. (I think they renamed it as the Bayonne Chicken?) Yes, they actually had the gall and audacity to do that. (If someone tried that today, they would probably get a Box 1 on Visual GE.) They also had a ridiculous percussion line, under the direction of Dennis DeLucia. They came out in 1983 and performed their drum solo blind-folded. That took major-league guts. Yes, go watch some of the old videos of them. Watch their 1980 show, and then compare it to any of the shows on display this weekend at LOS. Then ask yourself the following question: which show would you rather pay to see?
  13. I just think that Crown is about to become this guy: Until Lebron proved that he was a champion, by winning a championship, he was just a good guy, who did a "good job", and gave a "good effort". Then he finally won a title, and then all of his failures were forgotten. (He still is not liked by much of the American public, but they can't criticize him anymore for not winning a championship.) Until Crown proves that they can win a title - and not just choke it away every year - then I have no faith in their ability to win a title. They had legitimate shots at a title in 3 of the past 4 years; when are they actually going to produce? Until they do that, they will have a giant monkey on their backs - and it just gets heavier each year.
  14. corpsreps.com is the place to go. So here, for example, are the scores from 1980 finals: http://corpsreps.com/scores.cfm?view=scoreshow&showid=1980110
  15. The fanbase will do whatever the fanbase wants to do. Of course, the fanbase can probably be divided into 3 camps: 1) Crownaholics will moan and groan for another year, state how they have been robbed, grow more even more vehemently angry. 2) BD Honks will simply smile and gloat for another year, and smugly look down on everyone else. 3) Neutral third parties (like me) will simply become more cynical and disillusioned. See you on Sunday morning.
  16. Will our buddy Doyle be judging in Indianapolis this weekend? Will he be the chief judge? I can't wait to hear his tapes. p.s., a permanent copy of the tape can be found here: http://drumfunny.com/tag/doyle-gammill/
  17. Here is a tape you can listen to, in order to get a good feel as to how this process works: http://drumfunny.com/tag/doyle-gammill/
  18. I already have my snide, cynical, sarcastic remarks lined up for Saturday night, for when BD wins. I have them cocked, locked, and ready to rock. Here is a sampling (I will have more ready by Saturday): "I really hate being right all the time." "Ho hum, tell me a real news story." "The sun rises in the east, sets in the west, and BD puts another trophy in the case." "That is the sound of inevitability. That is the sound of your death. Goodbye, Carolina Crown." (That is the reference to The Matrix.) "Whoever uses the most props in their show always wins." And if BD loses, i will be the most shocked person since Julius and Ethel Rosenberg.
  19. Drum corps desperately needs something like VK or Bridgemen. It needs this badly. But of course, no corps who takes this artistic approach will ever be a champion. Bridgemen perhaps could have won a title in 1980; that was probably the closest any of them have come. Under the current scoring and judging regime, no comedy-based show could possibly win Finals. (In fact, you probably couldn't end up in the medals, or qualify for G7. No corps director would take that approach today. It would be tantamount to suicide.)
  20. No, because BD has it in the bag. Anyone who thinks otherwise is simply delusional.
  21. The commentary on this board can be brutal. But if you think DCP is bad...go to ESPN, and check out Section 140. The commentary there can sometimes be sick and sadistic. Go there when there is a big college football rivalry game...Or when the Yankees and Red Sox play. Sheesh. Or go to Youtube. There is basically no moderation there. Some of the commentary there is just plain evil.
  22. This activity suffers from a whole host of problems - competitive, artistic, and financial. If you think that homophobia is the reason for this activity's problems......wrong. If you think that thousands of fans are staying away from shows, because "there may be homosexuals in those corps"......wrong. If you think that this activity is losing marching members (or financial supporters) because there could be homosexuals in those corps.....wrong. I could list at least a dozen policy decisions by DCI that have had a worse impact on drum corps. And that is without putting a lot of thought into it.
