  1. Forgive me for my naiveness, but which show was this?
  2. Almost completely same line-ups for Munice and Michigan City..... shoot. Welp, never mind that, cuz I got World Champs and that's enough for me.
  3. Center Grove 2011 undulating rope Seriously- look it up somewhere. When they introduced it at the state finals, everybody (I mean everybody) was in complete awe.
  4. The Academy: "Left of Spring - Stravinsky revisited"
  5. http://www.scvanguard.org/about/news/news.cfm?news_id=6d7926e0-c30d-4031-aaba-665c460b41bb Shekhar Khedekar and Jim Moore joins the staff. Moore was in BLAST!. Just saying.
  6. All of them, especially Boston and Madison Scouts. And the Yokohoma Scouts too.
  7. Yeah, that's a good move.... but I suck (A LOT) at rhythm. It has been consistently one of my weakest areas for me. So... I really can't say yes to that. Thanks for the thought, though. It was a pretty good one.
  8. I will definitely take one step at a time. I can see I was just rushing a bit for advice. (Thanks a lot for the quote.... it really does dig deep for many.) I will keep that in check. That was actually part of the reason why my parents pushed me towards woodwinds instead of brass when I was in 5th grade. Even though they do not support the idea of drum corps, they support my decision to learn French Horn (quite earnestly, I must add. I'm thankful for that part.) As far as pitch goes, believe it or not, many had came up to me saying I had perfect pitch. I will look in to that as soon as possible. As far as Pioneer, I did consider that as a choice for World Class. However, as mentioned before, I kind of value my engineering studies a bit more. So therefore, I decided that 2 years of DCI would be enough for me. Of course, I would love to do more, but I'm not sure if I can keep both the commitment for DCI and engineering (I'm still in high school, so I can't really speak for the college experience. I do know that I struggle more with school when I'm out of the loop, which kind of plays into my decision a bit.) I would like a full tour for a year with perhaps a lower-tier corps around the Midwest area (including the BC..... I did receive interest from Boston University), so (I mean absolutely no personal insults at all) maybe I might consider Pioneer. But for two years, I'm not sure if I can do Pioneer.... Thank you for offering, though, I will still take it into consideration. I've always wanted the opportunity to thank one of your "informers" (I'm sorry, I don't have the right term for this...) that had told me about Pioneer back in 2009 at the Grand Nationals, though. I was surprised to find that he was deaf, just like me. He was extremely polite and welcoming, answering every single question I had, whether it was about deafness and marching. I don't remember his name, unfortunately.... I hope I can take them to a show next year, because quite honestly, they took a lot of time to drive me to many marching shows. They need to see what I'm all about . Thanks for the advice so far. I will talk with my physicians and audiologists as soon as possible about this. I have another question.... Is it possible for me to make a drum corps (say like BC, Madison Scouts, Blue Stars, Troopers, Glassmen, or Spirit of Atlanta) my age-out year with previous experience with a corps like Pioneer or Legends (in Michigan)? I am assuming that it will be incredibly hard for someone like me to do that because, well, I've never seen the traditions or the way they run things. Besides, I'm a age-out, good for a year.... (Good lord, I'm thinking so far ahead )
  9. I would love to march in drum corps. However, I have almost no one to ask about advice, because I have a relatively difficult background.... First off, I am still in high school (entering junior year). I am prepping to learn French Horn this fall, with plans to march mellophone next year. I have extremely heavy background in alto saxophone. Hence, the decision to switch to mellophone. I march with a strong state power (and I am not bragging here) in Indiana, so I feel like that my marching experience will be covered. However, it's important to note that I did not march with this school for both freshman and sophomore year (I actually moved to the school the past summer). My parents are difficult about drum corps. They unfortunately do not support my decision to march in DCI someday. My college plans are not so forgiving either. I plan to major in the engineering field, which won't allow much time for drum corps (I have to study constantly over the summer, and I cannot afford to skip a semester just for drum corps.) Money..... is just not coming to me. My parents are paying for my college education, but absolutely have desire really at all (other than a few hundred dollars) to help/fund me for drum corps. Also, I have profound deafness. I wear 2 cochlear implants for each ear. So..... 1. Is it alright for me to march, even though I may risk breaking my cochlear implants? They are extremely costly. I still have DCI in my interests anyway. 2. How in the world do I get money? I've heard about sponsors, but never really understood how this works. 3. Which corps should I try out for? I plan to march for possibly two years (may 2015 and definitely 2016). I know Blue Stars and Madison Scouts have camps in Indianapolis (which make them the first corps of my choice), but it depends on the university I go to (which is kinda useless information....). Really, money issues is a must-check for me. 4. Is it even possible for me to try out for a World Class corps with 3-4 years of mellophone? Should I try Open Class instead? Any other advice is SO MUCH appreciated! Thanks for taking the time to answer! I appreciate it very much!
  10. To be honest, it became sort of their identity of their show. Everybody pretty much recognized the show by its "upside-down reverse" tricks.
  11. It just irks me how much the corps members run around. I love SCV to death, but to put bluntly, it's not well-planned and distracting. (I was wondering why the corps didn't want them to play.... probably why the brass kind of sunk a bit. ) Hopefully the designers will find a way to write those scrambles so it kind of relates to running from hell a little more.
  12. Fort Wayne at the Coldwater Crossing Blue Devils- just looks almost like the one last year. Somewhat disappointed at potential decent show. Visual softens up the critics a bit more this year (Moreortheless, more creativity with sets). Cavaliers- I've heard that they'll be throwing rifles from stilts when championships arrive. "nuff said. Bluecoats- Opener was great!! Very very memorable! It started to drag a bit for me during the 2nd half. Meaning, a bit lackluster. Carolina Crown- I was pretty impressed with the visuals. Props somewhat useless, but the corps do it all their own pretty well. Cadets- Do I really have anything to say? (look at the past 11 pages...) Phantom Regiment- Opener was gorgeous, but just became lackluster for the rest of the performance (please change something about the show.... it's missing the "it" factor!) Santa Clara Vanguard- Very disappointed. You have wonder about those people running around. Do the coordinators not want them to play or what? Music and visual just don't match up very well. (I was actually looking forward to the show a lot. 2010 was a lot better.) Blue Stars- It's Matrix/Bourne! Be flashy!!! (Ramps need to move a little to allow space for corps. Looks pretty cramped)
  13. This is extremely neat! Gotten from Marching.com: The Sound of Perfection is a movie about the story of Bob Barr who accepts a band director job at Jordan Vocational High School in 1947. The "Red Jacket" at the time was struggling with 17 members. In 6 years, however, the band won a national title for both field marching and concert band at the American Legion national band competition. It has been read by many in Reader's Digest (being one of most demanded reprints), and many are signing up to support David Yarbrough in making the movie. 14. I just saw that Bloo'll play Radiohead. So freakin awesome ..... but no 15 steps please. What a waste that song was.
  15. (If you came here because of Cavies, then you will most likely be disappointed.) You know, I think this video has a lot of meanings to me. I don't listen (at all) to this genre. I listen to anything that has legendary guitar solos (Layla, Stairway, Black Magic Woman, etc.) I actually found about this song through an unseen Gears of Wars trailer (and yes, while the game's violent, I think they use this song brilliantly. )1. Cavies. "When people run in circles it's a very very mad world mad world." Need I to say more? 2. The video. That's really cool how they make the shapes from a birds-eye view, like drum corps. 3. The lyrics. I think this is how many people (especially the older ones here) see drum corps as. 4. ...I'm not going to tell you, it's personal.... I thought I'd share it, so there you go.
  16. Hello, and welcome! I think you brought a good point. In the end, the one corps that becomes the next Star 93 will win. We only can speculate who. It could be Cavies, Crown, Bloo, Glassmen, or Pioneer for all I know. Why Pioneer? Speculation. They may not be in any shape to start winning champs, but hey, who knows?
  17. Has the show been done before (hence the RE)?
