  1. I don't see anything publicly posted. It's concerning to see this type of conjecture. I know this is a forum, but this is not responsible in its posting. If you're going to provide a vague speculation of this type, please substantiate or provide your source information - or do not post this at all - especially as the OP. I'm also disappointed that DCP would feature this vague post on the main page of the website.
  2. Here's my 2 cents: The high-end quality today is better than it's ever been. Don't be mistaken by the decreasing number of corps. Anyone who's gone to an adjudicated band show, BOA, etc., would attest that the number of participants seems to be GROWING - i.e., competitive high school marching bands from the hundreds of schools throughout the country, indoor percussion, winter guard, and the emerging Drum Line Battle and Sound Sport (hopefully) just to name a few is influencing what's happening on the competitive drum corps field. Those same participants are the pipeline for drum corps. Drum corps and related activities have become year-round for many - including the design and instructional staff talent to go along with the performing members. edited for spelling correction
  3. I think the OP is right on! Sometime the scores really don't matter. Anyone who's ever had the pleasure to see Blast! on stage, didn't walk away from the show afterwards and say, "gee, the show was great, but it would have been better if they'd only gave it a score!". Entertainment, true entertainment, is scored by the fannies in the seats. Scores and judging do provide an incentive for corps to work toward perfecting their show. I think, to a certain degree, that judging and scores do provide an incentive toward perfecting a show from June to August. But overall, to the performers, their drive toward perfection is not because of scoring, it's because of the members themselves. To anyone ever having marched in a top finalist drum corps, hat's off to you. I never had the experience, but my time in the activity was just a memorable and rewarding to me.
  4. You will remember the people, places, and things long after you've forgotten the scores and placement.
  5. Here's the other Creep clip that must be included. By the way, almost 1/2 million views between these 2! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0_EA3UcGNM
  6. Seems like a more appropriate title for this thread should be "Don't Ever Overlook the Bluecoats!" - - - or, if you ever have, 'there's plenty of room on the Bloo Bandwagon for you!'
  7. Bluecoats are a top 5 drum corps for 4 out of the last ten seasons. They have been top 6 for eight of the last ten seasons. For each of the past 3 seasons, they have improved their placement to 2013's 5th place finish in Indy. They are a 27-time DCI Finalist. It's easy to overlook consistency. Make no mistake, Bloo is one of the most successful corps in DCI.
  8. I want this music on a drum corps field in 2014! Loved it! Show designers: are you listening! Fun, enjoyable, loud, heart-pumping music! ps - Scores? DCI judges? Placement? You think the fans that were moved by the music of this show thought about any of those things? What it should boil down to is ENTERTAINMENT!
  9. Music City is back! December camp is on the calendar! I'm sitting here listening to my MCDC 2013 download from the fan network. Man, this corps sounds awesome! So glad they're coming back. Spread the word and continue to support in any way that you can!
  10. Just donated. Thanks for the post. All - MCDC needs our support. I commend them for being proactive in their finances. They've been terrific to the membership. If you can, give.
  11. Thank you so much for all you did in building a terrific drum corps. What MCDC accomplished the years before are exactly the reason this was our corps of choice for the 2013 season. I've got every finger crossed that we see Music City back on the field in 2014!
  12. I would say to take this at face value. Keith Hall and Music City have been extremely forthright in communication. As a parent of an alum, I feel confident that they will continue to be open in communication and be very responsible in the operation of the corps. I firmly believe that if there is a December camp, there will be a 2014 corps.
  13. The passion of drum corps lives on! Here's hoping that this fine corps can find a way to get back on the field in 2014 - better than ever! We're a Music City family and will forever be grateful for the outstanding product they put out on the field and for fostering such a great experience for the membership! This is from Music City's facebook page: "Music City will soon announce details of a fundraising campaign that if successful will allow the corps to return in 2014, bigger and better than ever. Stay tuned! Meanwhile, check out these photo and video highlights from 2013."
  14. One of my favorites of 2010 - spot on about the sound they produced. If you haven't heard this show in a while, or ever, take a look-listen, and enjoy!
  15. If the Executive Director has to wash dishes, or perform any other tasks that typically should be done by others, then the Executive Director, and most likely the corps, will fail. Drum corps, in order to survive, must have a successful business model. There have been extraordinary financial, social, and cultural changes since the early days of drum corps - many of those changes have had a deep impact on the activity. Modern drum corps must have a high quality business structure: defined duties, separation of powers, oversight, a healthy balance sheet, dedicated people... Drum corps can survive in the modern world. It simply must adapt along with it. The days of the Dictatorial Chief Bottle Washer are gone.
  16. There was never any challenge in drawing kids to Music City. This is a corps that attracted upwards of 300 kids at their audition camps for the 2013 season alone. All totaled, they performed in 14 shows this year - including 2 in Michigan City and 2 in Indy. The value for each member commensurate with corps dues was among the very best in DCI. The draw for membership would not have been the same in DCA - and that would have had a negative impact on the high turnout of kids they were accustomed to getting. Without a thriving membership, no drum corps has a fighting chance. Although saddened by the loss of MCDC, I am grateful for the opportunity they gave to so many.
  17. Not to disagree with you on the shows that you've attended, but this was not the case this year in Avon Lake, Ohio. This show featured all Open Class Corps, yet it was marketed simply as a "drum corps show" and promoted effectively within the local community. As a result, the people came out. It was a great night for drum corps. I hope the show returns again next year.
  18. I agree. I find these scores very suspect. Now, on to a sport that seemingly has more legitimate scoring at the present - Big Time Wrestling!
  19. DCI announcer, Dan Potter, during intermission last night, provided a little premonition when he suggested that this year reminds him of 2008 when there was much doubt - he stated that the fans could have an influence on the outcome by the way they cheered and got behind their favorite performances.
  20. How about individual captions? Crown goes from 18.5 to 19.2 in percussion from prelims to semis. Percussion was the spot that had the most potential for improvement, thus allowing Crown to overtake BD. - interesting...
  21. I'm so glad someone else out there feel like I do. I totally agree!
  22. THANK YOU TROOPERS! My only disappointment is not being able to cheer for you again in finals. You produced mounds of goosebumps this season. An incredible show. Awesome, memorable, emotional, and inspiring.
  23. Every year they seem to get better. I think you've got to give it some time in order to fully assess "The best ever". However, this year certainly has the potential to not only produce the best top 4, but the top 6. Until we have more time to stew on 2013, how about 2010? 2010 was an incredible year - tremendous shows!!! Some of my personal favorites, how about you? Blue Devils - Through The Glass, Darkly Cavies - Mad World Bluecoats - Metropoliis - The Future is Now Crown - Second Chance Cadets - Toy Soldier Phantom - Into The Light
