  1. I TOTALLY AGREE with the OP. In fact, I have reduced my visits to DCP as a result. I'm not a fan of some folks who attack even the most personal and well-considered opinions. And, when marching members of the activity shy away from DCP because of this, it does not bode well for the site.
  2. That's great. I hope there are many others who agree that there's no place for booing in drum corps.
  3. Friends of the drum corps activity: While attending shows over this past weekend, including Atlanta (and hearing from a number of fans at Charlotte), I'm becoming so turned off by rude fan behavior in booing whenever (name the corps) doesn't place where they want them to place. Folks, this has got to stop!!! If people want to boo, then go see a professional sporting event. At least you're booing professionals that earn a living playing a game. But PLEASE, stop booing at a drum corps event. I don't care what the reason is, there is absolutely no place for booing in drum corps. Please remember that every kid on that field has worked so darn hard to perfect their individual contribution and to help produce a show as a corps that is as perfect as possible. It doesn't matter if it's the last place corps in open class or the gold medal winner in world class. Sweat is sweat, hard work is hard work. No one, not a single performer deserves to hear any cackle of boos - for whatever reason and motivation of the "fan". I hope there are many others like myself that feels really sick and tired of the boo-birds. If you want to boo, stay home and boo all you want while watching the fan network. PS - While I'm in the mood for complaining - enough of the fans who yell during the finals performances just to hear themselves on the recording. Yell, scream, root, cheer - but do it appropriately and respectfully. Now, back to drum corps and my excitement for the home stretch of what's been a terrific season!!! edited for: Please know that as a long time fan of the activity, I know that the vast majority of fans wouldn't ever boo at a drum corps show . I mean no disrespect to the many passionate fans, parents, marching members, and other supporters of the activity - including the passionate fans of DCP. It's the few - but sometimes, vociferous few, as of late that are creating a bit of animosity.
  4. When it comes to props, I'm hard to please because I'm generally not a fan. But the Bluecoats bleachers... really cool! Love, love, love 'em. Best use of props in 2013. The bleachers add to the show - don't distract from it. Thus, making the show, for me, the most enjoyable show for this season.
  5. I saw the Troopers the other night and really loved their show. Jim Jones would be proud!
  6. There was plenty of free parking available. I've attended this show 3 times and have never paid for parkinig.
  7. They'll be announced during the theater showing tomorrow.
  8. Spot on about the Bluecoats. This is a must-see show. Brass book is awesome, percussion hasn't lost a step from last year's overall 2nd place finish, the field show is the best I've ever seen from Bloo. There's a huge upside to this show as they push the limits in music and motion. I can only imagine what this is going to be like in August. Look out - they will be there as a contender when the dust settles - they've got the talent and staff to do it..
  9. As a long time Bluecoats fan (and now by virtue of Bloo's uni's with the Bushwackers, a fan of yours) I just made a donation to your uniform fund. Best wishes and much success. Go BLOO and the Bushwackers!
  10. Oh, good grief! I'm so glad we're going to start the season. I'm getting tired of predictions based on seeing nothing nothing at all. For those that want to predict, continue... but, please... if' your prediction is based on last year's placement, live a little, hold out hope for something different this year, huh?
  11. Regarding spontaneous standing ovations, that's easy. There are performances each year that just gets you out of your seat without even thinking about it. But typically, I do stand up to clap after the end of the show regardless if it's technically great or not. The activity is made up of kids who work their tails off to produce a show, not only for our entertainment, but because they want to produce something bigger than they are as individuals. For that, they deserve our recognition and cheer. It may not be a spontaneous standing-O, but it's out of respect and appreciation for what they've accomplished.
  12. It's time for a shake-up season. These pre-season predictions are all too predictable!
  13. I've seen a few posters mention Blue Devils and the new Crown uniforms in the same sentence. Question: Would Crown have gone for this uniform without the West Coast schedule this year? We'll get a better understanding once we actually see their show. But with EOTB... the new uniform, the West Coast show schedule - it all seems to fit together. All that's missing is a dark horse from the midwest (oh, please, drum corps god) to throw a monkey wrench into the mix. Ya never know!
  14. One more historical example... Check out the Madison Scouts from 1976. They scrapped more than 1/2 of their show between the beginning and ending of the season. The Scouts even cancelled part of the show schedule that year to do it. This would not be feasible by today's standards. Here's the link (interesting read) to a previous DCP topic thread on the subject: http://www.drumcorps...6-early-season/
  15. It seems as though your question can be taken two ways: First, for a corps that started slow but finished strong. The 2nd part of your question has to do with if a strong ending can overcome some show deficiencies. For strong endings, Phantom Regiment usually knows how to end a show. Check out the Fan Network for most years to "get your goose bumps on". Regarding corps that finished the season strong after more humble beginnings, consider The Cadets of 2011 as a more recent example. If you want to go one step further and get an example for a corps that dropped after a strong start, the Cavaliers of the same year may qualify for that catagory. Though one of my personal favorites of 2011, X-trordinary just could not achieve the placement momentum that The Cadets had with Angels and Demons. Consider that The Cadets finished 4th at the Minneapolis Regional, 3rd at San Antonio, 2nd at Atlanta, before winning in Indy by 4/10's of a point over the Blue Devils. Going in the opposite direction that same season was the Cavaliers, winners of all 3 aforementioned regionals before falling to 3rd in Finals: Minneapolis 7/16/11 / San Antonio 7/23/11 / Atlanta 7/30/11 / Indianapolis Finals The Cadets 4th place (-3.8 off the pace) / 3rd place (-.65) / 2nd place (.7) / Winner (+.4) Cavaliers 1st place (+1.4) / 1st place (+.1) / 1st place (+.4) / 3rd place (-1.5) As we approach the beginning of the 2013 season, it's important to remember not to be in too much of a hurry to finalize the medal winners, or slot out the 4th to 7th place corps; 8-12, or which corps that may miss performing on the last night before the last note is played. Some of us groan about the lack of placement moves at Indianapolis. There's usually enough of that to go around between June and August. It's the old adage: it's not how you start, but how you finish! Enjoy the 2013 season drum corps fans! I'm looking forward to experiencing the many surprises and enjoyment that this seaons's performers will be giving us. And, if the season is half as exciting as I think it will be, it certainly will be "All's well that ends well", as the OP wrote as this topic's question.
  16. Has Cesario has gone mad? Really, though, there's no middle road to this design... One thing that Crown's uniform succeeds at is evoking an opinion. There will be no ambivalence about them. They will look different for sure! PS - I do appreciate the pride this member evokes while wearing his uniform.
  17. Here some of my favorites from recent years... Cavaliers 2006 Machine Phantom 2008 Spartacus Bluecoats 2008 Boxer Bluecoats 2010 Metropolis, The Future is Now Cavaliers, 2010 Mad World Blue Devils 2012 Cabaret Voltaire Who's going to add to my list in 2013? I have a feeling it's going to happen!
  18. To the OP - it's important to note that the increase for the Fan Network is only $4 for any of the subscription choices. I went back to the news archives on DCI.org and pulled last year's subscription prices. I believe the $40 you noted in your original posting was for an in-season sale. You'll find last year's pricing noted in parenthesis next to this year's prices below. And, not to pile on... but with 20 LIVE/VOD shows in 2013 alone, your $69 equates to $3.45 per show - less than your Value Meal at McDonalds. Also, consider the ability to watch these shows multiple times at your convenience. Toss in the hundreds of legacy shows and it's pennies per show. There's other things we can be squabbling about when it comes to cost and value - this isn't one of them. Again, personally I love the blu-ray and the subscription. I always get my blu-ray at an early, pre-order date. Another thing that's great about this is my kids get to enjoy drum corps with my fan network subscription. Lastly, no, I am not in sales for the Fan Network. I'm just a fan who happens to enjoy the service! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2013 Fan Network Show Schedule: VOD – Saturday, June 22, Akron, OH LIVE/VOD – Saturday, June 22, Stanford, CA LIVE/VOD – Friday, June 28, Muncie, IN VOD – Saturday, June 29, Walnut, CA VOD – Saturday, June 29, Quincy, MA VOD – Friday, July 5, Lynn, MA VOD – Saturday, July 6, Michigan City, IN LIVE/VOD – Saturday, July 6, Denver, CO LIVE/VOD – Thursday, July 11, Warrensburg, MO LIVE/VOD – Saturday, July 13, Minneapolis, MN LIVE/VOD – Saturday, July 20, San Antonio, TX LIVE/VOD – Friday, July 26, Murfreesboro, TN LIVE/VOD – Sunday, July 28, Atlanta, GA VOD – Friday, Aug. 2, Allentown, PA VOD – Saturday, Aug. 3, Allentown, PA LIVE/VOD – Monday, July 5, Buffalo, NY VOD – Monday, Aug. 5, Michigan City, IN (Open Class World Championship Prelims) VOD – Tuesday, Aug. 6, Michigan City, IN (Open Class World Championship Finals) LIVE/VOD – Friday, Aug. 9, Indianapolis, IN (DCI World Championship Semifinals) VOD (Live+DVD or Live+BLU subscribers only)–Saturday, August 10, Indianapolis, IN (DCI World Championship Finals) Live | $69 (2012 price $65) • Access to all 2013 live webcasts • On-demand access to 2013 corps performances • On-demand access to DCI's historical video archive, 1974-2012 • 5% discount on all Audio and Video Performance Downloads Live+DVD | $159 (2012 price $155) • Access to all 2013 live webcasts • On-demand access to 2013 corps performances • On-demand access to DCI's historical video archive, 1974-2012 • On-demand access to 2013 World Championship Finals performances • 2013 World Championship DVD set shipped to you for free when released in the Fall • 5% discount on all Audio and Video Performance Downloads Live+BLU | $179 (2012 price $175) • BEST VALUE! • Access to all 2013 live webcasts • On-demand access to 2013 corps performances • On-demand access to DCI's historical video archive, 1974-2012 • On-demand access to 2013 World Championship Finals performances • 2013 World Championship Blu-ray set shipped to you for free when released in the fall • 5% discount on all Audio and Video Performance Downloads
  19. Last year for the network and blu-ray, the subscription was $175. This year, the blu-ray package is $179. Only a $4 increase. Still, IMO, a pretty darn good deal. All-in-all, for the value, there's worse deals out there. For me, I get more value out of the fan network than I do from the stupid cable television that I pay for every doggone month. And, for my fan network subscription, my money is going for an activity that I support. As for my cable subscription? Who really likes their cable company? PS - to the OP... compare your fan network subscription to any pay-per-view event on TV. For about the cost of 1-2 PPV's, your getting most of the major competitions during the season, hundreds of legacy shows, and if so desired, a pre-order for the championship shows. Again, a pretty good deal.
  20. Troopers... I'm looking for a return to traditional Troopers in 2013 similar to Madison's return to their roots in 2010. If successful, and they do make finals, the Troopers will bring down the house in Indy in August! The competition for 11-15 could prove to be an epic battle this year - perhaps greater than any year in memory. If you thought last year was a dog fight for 12, I've got a feeling we haven't seen anything yet.
  21. Hey OP: See you at the drum corps show this summer!
  22. No hating here. I agree. It's interesting that the Blue Devils have resisted the mega tuba lines of 16 or 20 in recent years in favor of their standard 12. Their brass lines are extremely loud.
  23. Not sure if they still have them, but the Glassmen alumni had an online action a while back. Included were a number of G bugles. I'd suggest reaching out to them. You may be able to help both parties out as a result. Thanks!
