  1. Terri, welcome to the Planet from an alumnus of another Illinois corps.
  2. Well. it looks like Phantom has its "phd-TTU" and now the Cadets has its "Poppycock" Any other nominations for each corps' DCP " we cringe when you post" nominee ?
  3. henry, thank you for your appreciation of PR this year but I take issue with your second sentence. Prior to 2016, the Regiment had not performed Prelude for Piano, Chairman Dances, Ave Verum Corpus, I'm Dreaming of Home or YPGO. The percussion feature is an original composition by Mssr. Kuhn and Ferguson. Aside from TCD and YPGO, none of the repertoire performed in 2016 has been performed in the past 60 years by any corps. So. perhaps a fresh approach has begun.
  4. Well, we think we know from post 1738, on p.174, and 1769, on p.177, that the percussion rankings for the San Antonio show were 1. Bluecoats 2. SCV 3. Cadets ( all 3 within .15 of each other) and 8. Blue Knights. Who else will contribute? DCP wants to know too and we want to know now. Let's have a Recap Rebuilding effort. P. S. Upon review of the other current forum discussions, I really should defer to the No Detailed Recaps forum started by dcifanforlife.
  5. I have withheld posting this until the SA show was complete. munyon1, I will do the best I can to help you understand the intent of the Regiment's 2016 program. It is about the Phantom Regiment and it is about all of us, individually and collectively. We look back; we look at the present; we look to the future. 2016 is the 60th anniversary of the Phantom Regiment. Our "Voice of Promise" program this year is a celebration of our quest over these 60 years to fulfill our promise to establish a tradition of excellence. The promise is of furthering this tradition of excellence. Our voice relates to coming into our own and looking forward to the future. A phrase which incorporates this is that " in all of us is a better version of ourselves". In all of us there is a voice of promise. Musically, I will refer you to podcast 526 on the Marching Roundtable site where a Q & A with Will Pitts is an opportunity to learn about the 2016 music selections and their relationship to our theme.. I accept that some will/may say and have said the Regiment could have done a better job of articulationg this premise in the manner in which we have chosen to do so to date. I simply want to stress that there is an organizing principle for our 2016 program and to urge all to enjoy its beauty and elegance for the next few weeks.
  6. So, we have 7 of the 8 corps which performed in Dekalb last night and BStars in place of BKnights + a completely different judging panel for Warrensburg, all of which to me suggests a shakeup at the top from the Dekalb results, i.e., 1. Crown 2. Bloo 3. Mt. Diablo 4. Vanguard 5. Cadets 6. Rosemont 7. Regiment 8. BStars.
  7. Recap from Alexandria, KY shows no penalty assessed. edit: Whoops! Did not notice that kevingamin beat me to it.
  8. So, we all know that full recaps of all of the sub captions are available to all competing corps at specific competitions. This, along with the after-contest critiques, should provide the teachers and decision makers in each corps to make such adjustments as are needed to achieve a different, higher competitive result...and to know whether they need to implement a 0.3 change or a 2.3 change. My question is whether the full recaps from each contest are circulated to all WC corps competing this season? Will the corps competing in Evansville receive the full recaps for corps competing in Oxnard tonight ? The present system allows the publication of sub caption results so we know that every corps in every contest achieved a 0.00 score and all were rankedi first in each sub caption. Could not the folks who voted to suspend the release of full recaps this season relent and allow the publication of the ORDINALS associated with each sub caption so we, the paying public, can at least know e.g., which corps had the highest ranking brass or percussion line as the season progresses?
  9. I do not know who this small person who goes by the pen name phd-TTU is (only that he might now be a attempting to get a PHD at Texas Tech U or maybe Tennessee Tech U or maybe Tijuana Tech U and his doctoral dissertation might involve HOW TO MAINTAIN A HATEFUL DIALOGUE ABOUT MANAGEMENT OVER SOMETHING THAT HAPPENED TO ME A LONG TIME AGO and he/she is using comments made here on DCP as a research tool. It is clear that this harangue by phd is personal and involves some slight incurred by phd years ago. I have some recollection that at some point in a prior DCP/Phantom Regiment forum, an assertion was made that the root of this person's ire was that he was fired from his staff position with the Regiment while on tour and directed to leave immediately. I don't know if he was abandoned in the desert without food or water but he has certainly adopted the mantle of "poor me" ever since. It would be nice if phd could control his anger and move on but he clearly lacks the maturity to do so. DCP is largely a free speech zone so if phd wants to continue to act like a baby who has received his first scolding from mama, he has the freedom here to do so for the rest of his miserable life.
  10. Also. fwiw I have been attending these theatre broadcasts for some years in Phoenix, AZ. In the earlier years, it was very common for someone to notice my Regiment gear and approach me, introduce themselves and engage in lively conversations about drum corps in general or re specific instances of interaction between their corps and mine. I miss those times. The last few years, at the same theatre, this hasn't happened. Of course, some could be intimidated by the chevron on my hat or a belief that the Regiment's resistance to becoming a member of DCI's World Class WGI Circus division leaves nothing to discuss that meets their interests. When I have tried to interact with younger generations, conversations tend to be brief before they excuse themselves and return to their #### iPhones to find out the latest "shock" news about Bieber and Cyrus. This is more of a generational comment than a rant. Personally, I do not envy the challenge that faces the design/visual staffs of drum corps these days to find a balance between a "traditional" corps field presentation and the apparent necessity to go "over the moon" to satisfy the need to achieve a certain visual requirement. Having said that, I thoroughly enjoyed the creativity which BLU has brought to the field in 2016. I hope their "Down Side Up" efforts are rewarded with the Gold medal. Or if not them, Crown.
  11. GoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAlllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! a aa
  12. Sometime ago, during a similar discussion on DCP, I pulled up a band site on YouTube and listened to a few bands with the intent of trying to determine if woodwinds could make a difference in the quality of sound. My only conclusion was that unless the woodwinds were isolated and allowed to feature themselves directly in front of the stands and the other instrument sections were limited to no more than a hmmmmmmm, the woodwind players, bless their hearts, were not a factor in my enjoyment of the band's show. I suppose at some time in the evolution or devolution of drum corps, a motion will be made to allow individual or ensembles of certain woodwinds because of their unique contribution or importance to a musical score. Or perhaps, the folks at King will develop brass instruments that can mimic the sound of woodwinds.
  13. garfield, Re your comment about the statue-dude scoring well with Marie, if by Marie you mean Marie Czapinski it should be noted that Marie accepted a role with Phantom Regiment in December, 2015 as a consultant to the Regiment's new Visual team of Tony Hall, Dwight Emmert and Will Schultz (the new Visual Caption Head. I presumed at the time that meant that Marie C. would not be judging DCI contests in 2016. In any event, it is the DCI judging community's loss and the Phantom Regiment's gain in a caption with which the Regiment has recently struggled. As a Regiment alumni (1956-1960), I certainly hope so.
  14. jt, I do not know enough about today's technology to know whether you can extract music from the DVD and transfer it to a mp3 but Phantom has an "On the Road" series which includes a DVD for the 2007 season. Go to regiment.org and search the shopping section; if you order today, it's 20% off (but ONLY today, May 30).
  15. How/ where do I find the " Show Reviews " section on DCP?
  16. yogitom. based on certain recent DCP discussions related to national political events I understand why you may feel compelled to type the second sentence of your comment…BUT have we really reached the point on this forum where a fact-based counterargument could be considered by some as " hating " ?????
  17. I am anticipating the impact of Will Pitts' arranging in conjunction with the Regiment's new King brass, the continued improvement of PR's battery, an impressive uptick in the Regiment's Visual results as a result of the additions of Tony Hall, Dwight Emmert, Marie Czapinski and Will Schultze to that team. I am also anticipating an ongoing battle among the Cadets, Carolina Crown, the Bluecoats and ??? for the top 3 spots. Lastly, I am anticipating the Celebration in Rockford, IL in July of the Regiment's 60th Anniversary. Oh, what a long. strange trip its been!
  18. Is this Lori Soules of Star of Indiana's guard in the picture with George? The Lori who is now Mrs. Rick Valenzuela and Office Manager of the Phantom Regiment. I bet she has plenty of stories about GZ.
  19. My condolences to your family. Thank you for your inspiration. Rest in Peace as you move Into the Light.
  20. See regiment.org for PR's October 31 announcement re our new Visual Caption Head and others on the 2016 educational staff. I am especially delighted that Chris C is returning as Brass CH and that Bret K and Rob F are returning to teach and write for our Percussion MM.
  21. Phantom Regiment builds its 2016 Visual Design team with the announcement of Tony Hall as Visual Coordinator and Dwight Emmert as Visual Designer. Welcome back, Tony and Dwight!!
  22. I attribute a good deal of these seasonal improvements to Chris Carichner, the Regiment's Brass Caption Head. I hope that CC returns in "16 to work with Will.
  23. Thanks to the OP for introducing this topic. As a variation on the theme, how about a list of SONGS YOU WISH WERE ON THE NO PLAY LIST SO THAT DRUM CORPS COULD NOT PLAY THEM. My first nominee would be I Like You by Got7.
  24. The only connection I've found is an announcement on the Adams Marching Brass site that Chris Carichner, Brass Caption Head for the Regiment, signed recently with Adams. On a related note, if Adams Marching Brass is the Regiment's choice for 2016, could the choice of John Adams' music for 2016 be far behind?
  25. I thank all of you who responded to this proposal. An appreciation of satire would have helped some to understand it. See Jonathan Swift's A Modest Proposal. Some of the dissent came from those who assumed I was either a Carolina Crown homer or anti-Blue Devil. What silly arguments. If you had taken the time to do so, you could have checked my Viewer Profile and learned that I am an original MM and fan forever of the Phantom Regiment. I preferred Crown's shows in 2013 and 2015 but that is the extent of any Crown "homerism". If your argument consisted of questioning my motives, you shall be confined to Carolina Crown's INFERNO, where those of you who are Devils alumni or fans will be right at home. I offer an exemption to Chief Guns whose opinion I always value. He will be afforded entrance into Crown's 2016 production "Purgatorio". If you knew of my connection to the Regiment, you would also know that this proposal is not an argument for a retrospective re-ordering of DCI results. I did an analysis of the medal results for the last 44 years. In 8 of those years ( "72, "74, "93, "96, "99, "00. "08 and "15 ), my proposal would have resulted in different gold medalists. Interestingly, "93 represents the only tie using my averaging formula, i.e., CBC and Star would have tied but CBC would break the tie if the lowest cumulative ordinal was adopted as a tie breaker. In 7 of those years ( "80, "92, "95, "97, "98, "01 and "14 ), my proposal would alter the recipients of the silver and bronze medals. So, in 15 of DCI's 44 year, 1/3 of all the medal placements would be different, perhaps not an overriding consideration for averaging results but not an insignificant one for future discussions.
