  1. This would be a cool social media "how it was done" thing for Troopers to get out as a recruitment com'on.
  2. IKR. It's like here's people talking about other corps in the Bloo thread again.
  3. Has he mandated they have a 'fro friendly uniform next year?
  4. Not entirely sure its a "last resort" as reddit is a fairly familiar and comfortable place for expression and such for this generation. It could well be there are corps mechanisms but they're just not comfortable enough for what the marchers are used to using for communcaiton and deliberation. We tend to express ourselves first in places and ways we're most comfortable with...even if they're not perhaps the best procedurally or legal ways to express oneself. So I'd imagine a number of ways to report and be heard are needed not just a singular "proper" way.
  5. Actually that's JimF-LowBari bringing it up. Unless IllianaLancerContra had a post go missing. I too am appreciative that the DCP community doesn't just skip by on these conversations with they come up. It's indicative of moving toward an environment in the fanbase where the issue is acknowledged and heard. We've got a long way to go in that, but it's starting to be seen more and silenced less it seems. I don't want anyone to have to yell into a vacuum when they finally need to yell what happened to them. I'd agree that reddit (or any discussion forum online) is a red flag though too. That tells me some of these folks are finding their corps communities to be that "yelling into a vacuum" and seeking out other places to yell.
  6. for my part, it's less telling BD how to do a show and more "I'd love to see what BD would do with..."
  7. [things for a bit to figure...] OH EW.
  8. I would be all over a Tosca show. Particularly done in what we can now call Crown's symphonic style I guess. DCXMuseum doesn't show anyone having used Tosca before. It's one of my favorite operas.
  9. Heh, I was at that Ft. Wayne show. It was my 'back to following DCI' moment. And yeah, I was sitting next to a BD volunteer who was, after BD's run, "If it's gonna happen this is the night." [meaning someone getting around BD]. I later realized that the corps chasing BD for most of the season was actually the Cadets. But that Ft Wayne show was where Bloo showed they could light up their show and challenge for silver. And so they did on finals night.
  10. The glory of the whole archive of shows available on demand anytime. I regret not downloading and archiving all that...
  11. And if so, does he count as the first Boston member to get a ring? Or do we ask Dan Potter for an asterisk? 😉 But seriously, that's a cool thing between corps.
  12. I think the app makes it that way. It's through the website to actually manage the account now. They don't wanna make it easy you know... Also be sure to watch your credit card bill for a charge next month if they get sneaky. That's been reported by some too
  13. For real. Each could have probably ordered 5 times the number they needed and sold them out at the souvie stands over the tour.
  14. BBB is now purchased by overstock.com which renamed itself Bed Bath and Beyond. They're an online only store now so who knows.
  15. Do we know who is making the trip to Indy for 2024 yet? What have people been hearing? Dunno if BDB will make a go for it again, they used to do every other year before doing every year so maybe it's back to every other year? Can't wait to see what Spartans and Gold do next. And Columbians! Talk about making a splash on your first trip to Indy!
  16. SRSLY. This is a bop... I could see them working some of that hand and arm stuff she does for the instruments (the bass break, the piano, etc) into their visual vocabulary too.
  17. Gabe Gallegos with Troopers was another one who grabbed my eye on the podium. When New Road West played its last note in 2018 the emotion he'd wrung out of all of them just came to the top.
  18. Oh cool! I was just super impressed at how SOA's drum major got them through that crisis. I forget which open class corps it was one year had a near disaster of a tear and the DM did a sweep wipe direction to get them all back on and there were a fair few of us who were "GIVE THAT GUY A MEDAL" because it was the sort of thing that often isn't fixable aside from a restart of the show. The SOA guy's cool head got them through the silence just fine. Sometimes heroes wear capes, sometimes they stand on podiums. (And of course, sometimes they're doing both)

  20. Again contemporary opera please. (I can live with classics but like...Turandot is always gonna be Phantom to me..heh) Top of my wish list is Book of Mountains and Seas just for what they could do with visuals from this production with Basil Twist's puppetry. (Please do it better than Phantom did...please) "A daring new work by composer Huang Ruo and puppeteer/designer/director Basil Twist, Book of Mountains and Seas is a modern take on ancient Chinese creation myths, first transcribed in the 4th Century BC, yet strikingly relevant to our current struggle with climate change. An ensemble of massive puppets, as fanciful as they are terrifying, and the chorus of Ars Nova Copenhagen challenge us through music and stunning visual tableaux to consider the power of the natural world and our vital, yet tenuous, relationship to it." Also plenty of percussive stuff for Jackson and Shaw to explore here in relation to the music. Frida M Butterfly (the opera not the movie, same story...but told better through opera)
  21. Actually BD's succes isn't so much that they have a stranglehold on any one caption. It's that they're able to gun for multiple captions AND never drop below 2-3 in other captions for the most part. It's hard to beat that.
  22. This is my want. I have a brown fedora but it’s an upturn brim. I have a black hat but it’s a porkpie. I need to invest in looking for the right black fedora
  23. Yeah we had this conversation earlier this season. Lots of contemporary opera to explore
