  1. Spoken like a true Euphonium player. More Contra!!! and Euph.
  2. This thread isn't pointless. It shows Academy is getting support from the Drum Corps community. Honk...Honk!!! Go Academy!!! See you on Saturday night in Pasadena!!!
  3. Happy Friday the 13th to everyone. Can't wait for the show tonight. B)
  4. Anyone know if we have any DCA presence at the shows this weekend?
  5. Brass is tied for 2nd. Looks like their percussion is lagging...but it's even worse for SCV!!!
  6. I'll admit, when I first heard about KAC, I was worried about it pulling current and potential members from Dream. Fortunately, there were only a couple such incidents, nothing that would be a major setback to Dream. Comparing KAC to Dream is comparing apples to bananas. Two different flavors of Drum Corps. There is some bad blood from the past that may never be resolved. It's on a pretty small scale though. I for one will be watching you guys this weekend. I hope you guys have a wonderful time on the field and off. BTW, someone mentioned spinning contras? That's how we start our show, and the K-90s are our little horns. :sshh:
  7. I am one of two contras in our corps (4 G contras total) on an LM-12. I really enjoy it. It is designed for one purpose, playing low and loud. At first, I had trouble playing anything above a tuning C without it being fuzzy, but now that I'm used to it, I can play high too. I tried this mouthpiece on a Bb sousaphone for the banda I play in. That was fun too. 4 hour gig and I never got tired. It's the only mouthpiece I play on now. Oh, and it's easier to clean. Mine has a detachable rim, but I honestly have no idea what size rim I have. They come in two sizes, so eventually I'll find out which rim I have and get the other one.
  8. I remember standing in the shade at the top of the stands wanting nothing more than to be on that field. :(
  9. I actually like Thom's idea of not being pigeonholed into one musical genre. I want to be able to play...whatever they tell me to play. :P
  10. I sure hope this is a temporary step-back to regroup. I've always enjoyed the RCR shows in the past. I look forward to seeing you guys on the field again next summer.
  11. That school is fine, but the field is a mess. I have flashbacks every year I go back there. If I could, I'd take that night off.
  12. On Saturday, all this debate will be over...just in time for a new debate. Stay tuned. Really, we're just happy to start out with a solid show, even without the closer, and get some recognition from the judges. A pat on the back once in a while is a good thing. I am so looking forward to this weekend.
  13. The timing thing left us holding our horns up for an extra 30 seconds at Riverside. Then again, it also gave us a chance to chat with one of the judges too. That was a first.
  14. Well, hopefully they let out early so they can go to the shows.
  15. Wardrobe malfunctions. We're just short a few unis in key sizes. We'll all be in yellow soon.
  16. That's when we setup an arc and "Blow their faces off".
  17. Our corps wears shakos, so for our gig on Sunday (video) we wore shakos for the first time. I had no problem with it, but I am in the minority there. We've been wearing the leather driving caps for a few years and baseball caps for one year. I can't really think of anything else to try. Any ideas?
  18. As a member of that "Contraband" I can tell you we want to participate in this as well. This group is welcome to use the name "Contraband".
  19. I would prefer to have sunglasses as part of the uniform. I spend all day at practice with them on. I look strange without them... ...OK, I look strange with them on too. I can't win.
  20. I've often wondered if it would be better to teach a show backwards, ending on a piece that everyone is most comfortable. Last year we played the same closer as the year before (same thing but different). Even though I was playing a different part and it was in a completely different key, I still felt confident with that tune at the end of the show.
  21. I got the same impression of that 4th valve when I tried it at the NAMM show a couple years ago. I kinda like the idea of a left hand 4th valve, but that design is terrible.
  22. My favorite is BD 96 as the contras close in from the back at the end of the show. The first time I saw that, it was from the end zone at Pacific University. My thought was...as long as it isn't me. I learned my limits the hard way.
  23. Just want to point out a few things... Calling Denver "the west" may have been appropriate 50 years ago, but not today. News Flash: The Mean Center of US Poulation is now west of the Mississippi River. Hurricaines suck, but they don't just happen in FL and LA. Last year we traveled 2600 miles to Rochester, NY for DCA Prelims (and eventually Finals...YAY) to perform our show in Hurricaine Ernesto. While it was no longer a hurricaine by the time it got there, that was still a lot of wind and rain. However, I will always be able to tell the story I got to watch the Connecticut Hurricaines...in a hurricaine!! Yes, having finals in Pasadena will cost East Coast corps more money to travel out here. Just remember, BD and SCV aren't hanging out waiting for everyone to come meet them. Both corps are hitting the East coast for tour, just like every other year. It is a shame there are no shows in FL and LA. Hopefully, that's just a one time occurence.
