  1. Spill the tea. I know there was genuine dislike if not down-right hatred. Let’s hear your stories. Although THEY thought they were our “rival” we just considered them annoying, especially when they shouted “VK ALL THE WAY”! during the middle of our shows. To retaliate (later) we would sing them a song with alternate lyrics from Westside Story; “There’s a place for usssss, a SECOND place for us....” I don’t like the Velvet Knights to this day.
  2. 1974 - Anaheim Kingsmen should have won DCI. Bottle Dance, Shmottle Dance.
  3. You’re going to make it, have the time of your life, and make great friends along the way you’ll have for the rest of your life.
  4. I'll let someone else lead that charge as it didn't happen to me and it wasn't even my corps. The kids, now adults, are the ones that would need to speak out - if they want to. I understand if they don't.
  5. I understand removing George Hopkins. It’s a “Me Too” moment for Drum Corps and I’m glad. However, if DCI is really serious about this there’s another name that needs to be removed too. I doubt they've forgotten about it but I'm sure the victims haven't.
  6. I asked the mod to nuke it and, thankfully, he or she did. It was embarrassing.
  7. I think the judges got it right from what I saw. But its soooooo subjective now and I see how people can disagree. greg_orangecounty
  8. MODERATORS: If you could delete this thread I would really appreciate it! Thank you, greg_orangecounty
  9. Do I have the power to nuke this thread as the OP? It just didn’t seem to work out and has become unproductive.
  10. Although it may be hard to tell today Drum Corps emanated from the military, not Broadway. As such, our attitudes and manners reflected it. If someone tried to break our rank we told them not to and the vast majority respected. Those that didn’t regretted their choice especially if they did it to our rifle line. It didn’t make us “tough”, “bad-azz”, or anything like that. It’s just who we were. If it’s no longer a “thing” in 2019, I get it. No judgment from me as I admire and respect the current marching members and their talent. greg_orangecounty
  11. Hey Spatzzz, I asked a very simple question. Although mini lectures from anonymous message board posters on what it means to be a “man” are always welcome, if you must know, the biggest threat to rank breakers in our corps came from our (all female) color guard. gregorangecounty
  12. I love this story. Not that the band director was injured, but that he took a stand that you don’t break our ranks. We would have NEVER allowed it either back in the day, but is this a current attitude in drum corps?

  14. Madison, Phantom Regiment, & Seneca Optimists too. Even Velvet Knights! I’m sure there were more just don’t remember them all.
  15. The Anaheim Kingsmen Alumni Corps (2007) accepted non-alumni. We had several BD, SCV, and Freelancer alumni. We all paid for our own uniforms, instruments, and probably some membership fee but I don't remember. It was a LOT of work, but an unforgettable experience I'll remember the rest of my life. The only thing I would advise is to have a few key members set the ground rules and see if enough people want to participate to make it worth it. You're never going to please everyone.
  16. If the BD’s take requests I’d love to see a reboot of their 1976 show incorporating all of the current/modern elements of drum corps.
  17. I think it was in Lawrence Kansas, but I recall a group of older men in VFW hats yelling at us “THATS NOT DRUM CORPS!” This was in the early-mid 1970’s. Some things don’t change.
  18. Congratulations to Blue Devils and all their fans and alumni!! To this day I (mildly) regret not auditioning to become a part after we folded.
  19. i think 14 is a bit too young. 16 would be much better in my humble opinion.
