  1. Canton and Pittsburgh shows on the same night (of course) so no SCV for me 😔 unless I try to get to Annapolis (~6 hr drive)
  2. You can also look at the Embassy Suites which is a bit further south and across I-77 from the HGI and airport. We've had family stay there several times for college graduations and a wedding. If the stars all align, looking forward to potentially meeting a lot of you fine folks! I've met several at this show over the years.
  3. The bolded and underlined sentence is one that I doubt many of us would NEVER have heard BITD. Good to know things have changed, drastically in some instances.
  4. I learned to play on a valve/rotor in the cadet corps. Stayed on one until I got a two valve in the late 70s...which was after I joined the HS band and was given a trumpet at my first lesson (we had an alumni sponsor for part of their cost)...the instructor put some music up, asked me to play, and I looked at him and basically said "what the h3ll do I do with this?" 😂
  5. ...and if THAT doesn't tell you something about DCPers...😎
  6. I never left it...still have several years' worth of the Finals LPs, a few older ones that were my Dad's, and several hundred others...
  7. I believe they were basing their calculation on the hornline: "Playing any form of notes on their brass wind instrument... "
  8. Performer: 2 - 1975 and 1982 Non-finalist: 4 - 1976, 1977, 1979, and 1980 Audience: 5 - 1974, 1978, 1981, 1985, and 1987
  9. The brute force route would be to buy the top 12 blu rays from DCI.org. Their website shows they're still available, though of course, pricey.
  10. Someone mentioned opening LOS roof??? I must oblige them...
  11. O.W.!! Good to see you around! Parts of Ouroboros were amazing, particularly the ballad and the closer
  12. Fave SCV show discussion portion of the thread? Yesssssss... 1974 – First time to ever see them. I was 11 at the time, a big drum corps fan already (my Dad marched in the ‘50s with St. Vincent’s Cadets) but it was our first time going to Championships and seeing a lot of the “big corps”. Every single thing about that Vanguard show enthralled me. 1975 – may well be my favorite Vanguard show. To this day when I listen to/watch it I’m amazed at what they accomplished in that show. 1987 – A feast for the senses. As someone else mentioned, heartbroken at them not winning (I actually smuggled a small bottle of champagne into Finals to “celebrate”…) but man, that was one special show. 1988 – A feast for the emotions. My preferred “Phantom” version as well. My parents came into town to go to the local show and by the end of SCV’s performance they were stunned. 1991 – Helicopters! Wood block thingie for marching feet sound! Traveled to the DCI Canada show b/c they were there; SUCH a gorgeous show. Did not see them for a long time after the 1992 season (kids, kids’ activities, family…next live viewing was the 2011 show…which I really kinda dug for its quirkiness…) but like many others here really dig the ’97 and ’99 shows. In particular, though… 2003 – this is just a fun show to watch, and the “pathway” drill moves to open and finish the show were just fantastic. 2016 – Classic Vanguard from start to finish; the intro to the opening hit was – in my mind – perfect. 2018 – Just, wow. Got to see them at the Akron/Canton/Massillon show, so it was pretty well set for Championships and boy did it deliver. So many other years – complete shows or moments – it’s so difficult to limit my choices and on a different day my list would grow or contract (yes, 1980 and 2009 and 2013 and 2015, I see you…) and still be an amazing assemblage of shows. They have been my favorite corps for almost 50 years and I truly wish for a positive outcome for the corps and all those associated with it.
  13. Finally got a chance to see the show w/ the tarps/phabric. Understated, essentially nonreflective, and very much out of the way. I kinda like it. Also, given the show theme, that opening move with the props really reminded me of:
  14. And now I know what that device is called. I love this place.
  15. There's no doubt who's coming on the field when you see the Cavies coming...
  16. Following some of the "toot your horn" examples... https://youtu.be/i2WkEmN9K9U?t=713
  17. Saw them talked about but not shown; here you go...
  18. For some reason, the video segment for "Supremacy" (in conjunction with the show title) made me think of this:
