  1. If we're talking ever in the history of ever? I think the '66 Chicago Royal Aires show is one that I've heard about over, and over again, from time immemorial. Wish it was available on video. To me, 1974 Santa Clara Vanguard was the show that changed the Universe forever, otherwise I would think the Vanguard Phantom of the Opera years would be their most famous.
  2. That flow, had it arrived before the period went missing, should have seen the end of the dilemma.
  3. Hopefully, this time around, their stuff won't weigh enough to break the back of Arnold-the-Conan-nator at his buffed best. The old Premier snares weighed a ton, compared to Pearls, and didn't sound anywhere near as good...Unless you were into scottish drumming.
  4. A world where people never asked you what you did last summer, just who you marched with ...
  5. Sir: While the misplaced apostrophe might be problematic and a cause for some concern, may I suggest that that the situation is far less egregious than one which may arise from a missed period.
  6. Um, Madison Scouts ... To play the music in the video in my sig.
  7. New Christmas Music Video! 'Hooray for Santa Claus Conquering the Martians in Under 4 Minutes'

  8. Making more youtube videos. This time a '70s PSA music video mashup. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGlN9hzZasw

  10. Agreed, regarding topical humor. That's why Dreamworks and Pixar try to keep as much topical humor as possible out of their animated films. It dates them, and makes it almost impossible to reintroduce to new generations every ten years or so (as Disney has done with all of their best animated films.) That's why the sitcoms that you see being syndicated decade after decade, are the ones that, "The Brady Bunch" notwithstanding, are based on timeless situational humor..."Gilligan's Island", "The Munsters", "The Addams Family", "I Love Lucy", etc. You don't see that kind of play for largely topical shows, like "Family Ties", for example. Folks also don't remember that Civil War Suite was kind of a dud in '79 until the corps headed south of the Mason-Dixon Line (even taking into account that the corps was struggling in the early season.) The audiences in the South ate it up, the rest of the country, not-so-much. Bits like those in 'Black Market Juggler', and 'Thunder and Blazes', or 'Big Noise' would likely fare better. It would be absolutely awesome to see the Bridgemen, in something reminiscent of our former glory, perform for a DCI Finals-week crowd. IMNSHO, it would take a super-version of the corps, with a special initiative to put the biggest, best corps on the field for a single-season, 1-shot, edition of the Bridgemen Alumni. What the current Bridgemen Alumni corps does is great within the context of the alumni oeuvre, and is fine hobbyist-level drum corps, but I believe that others here are correct in stating that the Friday Night crowd at DCI would need something on a different scale to make it work.
  11. 1974 Santa Clara Vanguard, "Send in the Clowns" 1974 Madison Scounts, "Brian's Song" 1976 Blue Devils, "Chase The Clouds Away" (75 as well, but '76 was just friggin' amazing.) 1776 Bridgemen, "What I did for Love" 1976 Crossmen, "Russian Christmas Music" (and many other years) 1978 Spirit of Atlanta "Let It Be Me" (and pretty much any other year they played it.) 1978 Santa Clara Vanguard, "If You Believe" (the tenor/bass lick into this was enough to make your head explode from awesome.) 1979 Blue Devils, "My Heart Belongs to Me" 1980 Blue Devils, "Dindi" So many others, but this is all I can think of right now ...
  12. Sounds like the drum corps equivalent of a Lead Zeppelin tribute band!
  13. Oh, that was an amazing corps to be a part of ... What a season!
  14. Puccini has written some of the most emotionally evocative music of all time. Puccini is great music for drum corps. Since Nessun Dorma has been beaten to death by every major tenor and figure skater on the planet for the last 20 years, it comes with an immediate recognition factor, even from people who typically eschew opera. Besides, it's been beaten to death 'cause it's a tune that no one ever tires of hearing, so it's never really been beaten to death. The Regiment traditionally has displayed a design sense (although I despise last year's uniforms) that one could see as bringing beautiful visual execution to this program. Sounds like potential for a whole lotta' win.
  15. Had to go with "Criminal", although it was in a dead heat with "Knockout". Both great shows.
  16. Always loved this show ... Especially "Pieces of Dreams".
