  1. Let's start a streak of me starting a thread, that leads to a championship.
  2. DCI World Class Rankings (Caption Compilation) Posted by DCI after 7/29 Going into Allentown I wanted to see how the corps are Ranked by caption so I put this list together to share. The Caption Scores are the latest listed performance scores up to 7/29 from Soaring Sounds, NightBEAT, Drums Across the Tri-State, and DCI Southeastern contests. (Please Note! - I prepared as "TEXT" document so it could be copied if you desire. The columns are adjusted in the post so the columns kind of line up to view but if copy the text to another document, the fields will not be in line. -- Sorry, I'm still learning how to do things in the forum) 😁 Place Corps AVG. 3. This post may sound a bit "Corny" but I would like to acknowledge cfirwin3 as "Teacher of the Weekend" for the week ending 7-28-19. He has provided us with some very detailed and informative posts explaining a number of points about music and the drum corps activity. Additionally, he has uploaded a series of videos on youtube comparing older drum corps shows to newer show designs. Well Done and Thank You
  4. Previously, I made a private request to a member of this forum for this info but my request was either ignored or it was lost. I tend to believe the latter. Searching for information on DCI's judging sheets led me back to an old post here in the Drum Corps Planet forums. The original post: Judging system/score sheets By JustinDMoore, June 17, 2014 in DCI World Class Corps Discussions JustinDMoore was looking for info detailing How the final score is calculated on the Recap sheets. Thanks to jjeffeory It's Just "Jeff", jjeffeory Posted on June 20, 2014 the following link: Maybe some of this? http://issuu.com/drumcorpsinternational/docs/2012_judging_sheets_full_set/2?e=0 This is a "flip" 34 page docuument outline the judging criteria for the Recap captions. While it is from 2014, it is still useful for those who want to better understand the judges scoring. You should be able to do a screen capture or "print screens" if you desire to save this info. Thankyou to jjeffeory for posting this. If anyone has any current detailed info to add, please add to this post. I think this is useful to everyone who wants to understand The Recap Score Sheet.
  5. Hello! I'm thinking about auditioning for BD synth, and had a couple of questions. 1. About how many people usually audition for synth? 2. Do you have to know MainStage? 3. Would a piece like Chopin's Prelude in B minor (op. 28 no. 6) be okay? (https://musescore.com/classicman/scores/68550) If not, what kind of piece would be suitable to audition with? I assume that it shouldn't last more than 2 minutes, but I could be wrong. 4. What is the audition process like? 5. When did you hear back from BD? Thank you for all your help!
  6. Has anyone noticed that The US Marine Drum Corps is missing from this season? Live streams produced by DCI and Flo Marching feature The ARMY band as a career. I thought the USMC was a corporate sponsor for DCI but have heard nothing about them to date. Did I miss something?
  7. * Tickets are sold * I have 3 Super 3 packages (3 tickets for prelims, semi’s & finals) for sale for the 2019 DCI finals. Tickets are area 139, row 22, seat 14,15 & 16. They are located on side B of the field, 1 inside 40Y. If you are interested, let me know by posting it below or send me a pm!
  8. We watched DCI West via FloMarching last night. (and, boy, do they have a lot of kinks to work out) I have to remind myself that is the FIRST show for most of these corps, but saying that.... The Academy - They are a Top 12 corps. How The Mandarin beat them....? What was the corps calling itself "The Troopers?" That wasn't the Troopers. I don't know what it was. Same goes for The Cavaliers. But all hail Blue Devil C!!! I'm not a BD fan, but I was shocked that SCV beat them. Excited to see DCI Crossroads tonight.
  9. I thought I start a thread of inks to live feeds of the hornline, drumline, front ensemble, and guard warm ups. To keep things kosher, let's stay away from posting live show feeds. Let's keep it to live video from the parking lot.
  10. Necessary schedule conflict leaves 4 Super3 tickets for sale. Prelims Aug. 8, Semis Aug. 9 and Finals Aug. 10, Lucas Oil, Indianapolis, IN, located at Section/Aisle 442 Row 7 Seats 1-4. Please pm me.
  11. I'm starting a new thread for tributes to the founders of DCI. Don Warren of the Cavaliers Bill Howard of the Madison Scouts Dave Kampschroer of the Blue Stars Gail Royer of the Santa Clara Vanguard Jim Jones of the Troopers In 1971, they formed the Combine West that became Drum Corps International the following year. Please post memories of these fine gentlemen.
  12. Offered for sale is a collection of drum corps drumline writing that spans several decades from the 1970s to the 1990s. Cadences, warm-ups, exercises and random bids from some of the greatest percussion arrangers ever to put their beats on a football field for Drum Corps International, Drum Corps Midwest and dozens of other regional circuits back in the day. This collection is over 100 pages from percussion arrangers such as Marty Hurley, Tom Sorensen, Russ Weber, Dennis Delucia, John Wooton, Brian Dufour, Jeff Prosperie, Bart Dixion writing for corps such as Phantom Regiment, Pioneer, Bridgemen, Colts, Blue Devils, Cavaliers, etc. A great historical collection of drumline beats to help build your chops for auditions and the upcoming marching season. All of the arrangements are in page protectors and shipped in a three ring binder. This is also posted on Ebay and you can view photos there. https://www.ebay.com/itm/153353723429 Thanks for looking and feel free to ask any questions.

  16. Music City is DCI's newest World Class Corps! Any thoughts?
  17. I am planning on attending the big four events this year: San Antonio, Atlanta, Allentown, and Indianapolis. I would like to purchase premium tickets for each event from the corps themselves. I am a Crossmen alumnus and will likely buy at least 1 show from them, but I am totally open to sitting in other corps' sections and have done so at various times with Carolina Crown, The Cadets and The Cavaliers. Without bashing any corps or its fan base, I'm curious which shows tend to have really high energy fan sections that are supportive of ALL corps performing at each of these events. Any thoughts? It is REALLY important to me that the section is supportive of all corps and that most people are in their seats for most of the show rather than just their favorite.
  18. can anyone tell me the time, date and location? thank you
  19. Hello. I have 2 Friends of DCI ticket packages that I am selling as I am unable to go this year. 21. Anyone on here attending finals this season? I'm taking a road trip from CT with some friends, gonna be there a couple days prior.
  22. With all the chatter about this season's uniforms/costumes, I thought starting this thread would be interesting. So, in your opinions, which corps have the best and worst uniforms of 2018??
  23. First, the good: It’s nice to hear brass lines punching up the volume again and most corps are accomplishing this without field microphones. Congratulations! Design staffs listen to the veterans and fans after all! We want a big sound and we want it to be produced by natural means. Now, with that being said, each corps used to have its own particular sound. Back in the day you could pick out a brass line blindfolded: Phantom had a particular sound, Madison had a distinctive sound, etc. No longer. Every brass arranger in DCI seems to use the same technique. The trumpet parts are arranged similarly, etc., and its hard to distinguish between some of the brass lines today. Sure, there are differences in quality and clarity but in general there is what I call sameness across DCI. To me things sound tuba- and mellophone-heavy across the board especially live. Even some of the best brass lines in the country sound like a radio with the bass turned up and the treble turned down. Other than from the Blue Devils I don’t hear the searing-hot trumpet sound cutting over the top of the brass section. To my mind the best brass sections shade a little toward the treble end of the balance scale; not a lot, just a little. Look, modern brass lines are amazing but it sounds like the parts were ripped from Arban’s technique book. Would it hurt to play more than four consecutive measures of an actual piece? Other than parts of “Bolero” by The Cavaliers, a couple bars of “God Bless the Child” by the Bluecoats, and a trumpet solo from Phantom Regiment in “New World Symphony,” I don’t hear much I recognize. It’s mostly a ten minute mashup.
  24. Tickets for the championships in Indianapolis, Purchased via Friends of DCI and located in the Friends reserved section. Two semi-finals and two finals. Semi-finals are section 439, row 4, seats 16 and 17, championships are section 439, row 7, seats 14 and 15. Tickets being sold at face value, semi finals at $89 each finals at $139 each. Seats are fantastic.
