Fred Windish
beats downtown Allentown for sure! HA! Hi, Jeff! Right now, downtown Allentown is pretty much a wasteland. It's become the scene of gang warfare. Bullets flying, stabbings, an understaffed police force, a mayor in denial, plus .. . . it might rain! More seriously, at the present time, there is no indoor facility capable of hosting I&E, and I&E is becoming a bigger part of DCA each year. We do have a new casino in Bethlehem and they plan a 3500 seat events center, but that hasn't been started. On the possibility of Lehigh. There are no lights, it's natural grass, and the Lehigh folks are very difficult to deal with. I DO live right across the street from the Lehigh stadium, but my vote would be "no." Jeff Ream
no doubt,...............but a close second to Rochester was Scranton Stadium in 2005,..............mini corps was held on the field...................that was cool! yeah the stadium was cool, i forgot about that. davla00
true, moving can be good ( and sometimes bad). but you dont want to move and create a financial disaster either Oh I agree, but to just say oh Rochester does it best and lets not go any where else, isn't the right attitude either..... that was my point.... I have many beefs with having the DCA in Rochester and a few positives, but options should always be examined - and if something else doesn't make sense financially or otherwise, than so be it, it stays where it is. TO not look at all or to not have competing venue possibilities is not what DCA I think wants or we should want either as participants or otherwise. However, right now, Rochester DOES do it best, and the corps make money. if a better option comes along, i'm all for it, but it has to make sense not just because it is someone's dream site. and right now, the risks of going somewhere untested for DCA has WAY more cons than pros. it could be the PERFECT site....but if no one comes, who wins and loses? Donny Drum Corps
Although I am a homey, I dont like the stadium all that much, and especially because I grew up on that same west side of the river, I hate the neighborhood the way it is now. But again Friday night is awesome. And locations for the hotels downtown for many corps to stay makes it still attractive. I actually would be for moving it, if the right place was there. Fran Haring
Scranton Stadium in 2005,..............mini corps was held on the field...................that was cool! That was great.... but if it had rained that night, the outdoor venue would have sucked. IMO, any outdoor venues for I&E need indoor backups, just in case. cabalumnidrummer
davla00 said: "No offense to anyone on the thread, but this is all just talk.... Unless there is someone actively seeking a bid packet and working with another community, it will be in the same place and the same time as always." Exactly what I was thinking. Pardon me if I'm throwing the symbolic 'wet blanket' on this whole thread, because I know a lot of it is just in fun, but I feel the need to comment: There is no question that many of the stadiums that have been suggested are beautiful, suitable, attractive, well located, etc., and some of the locations mentioned even have good possibilities for the I&E and Mini-corps contests. However, the big missing link and major factor is this: Is there a sponsor/host/organizing committee interested in submitting a bid, and capable of organizing and running the DCA Championship weekend at least as well as any held so far? Unless or until someone steps forward to do that, this is all just speculation. See Post #1: 'Submit a bid' is not just a trite and flippant comment used to brush people off -- it's the reality of the situation. Sorry if I'm being too serious here! LegalEagle50
John ~ you're not being a wet blanket, not too serious, but a realist. That's something that is frowned upon at times but it does work to keep the dreamers in check. Not that dreams are a bad thing either. There's just a very fine line between both that will actually work IMO.
cabalumnidrummer
Thanks, Liz! I'm generally an optimist most of the time, but occasionally that darn sense of having to deal with reality gets in the way. I 'm not looking to spoil anyone's fun, just looking at the practical side!
