DrinkinOuttaCups
http://www.spiritdrumcorps.org Among many of the great plans for Spirit Drum and Bugle Corps’ 2010 season, we are perhaps most excited to share the following news:The Board of Directors of Friends of Spirit, Inc. and Spirit Drum and Bugle Corps are pleased to announce that Spirit is moving back to the home of its birth, Atlanta, Georgia! Founded in Atlanta in 1976 by Freddy Martin, Spirit is excited to make this historic and heartfelt return to our home. Atlanta is perhaps the South’s most iconic city and is one of the fastest-growing metropolitan areas in the United States. More than 75 percent of the Fortune 100 companies have a presence in the Atlanta metropolitan area. Home to the busiest airport in the United States and so many wonderful urban offerings, Atlanta continues to see positive growth including its downtown business and residential revitalization. A large number of colleges and universities lie within a close radius of the city and the support and interest in music and all the arts is extremely high. The many wonderful offerings of the city as well as interest in the corps by many Atlanta-based supporters helps make the timing of this move right for the forward growth of Spirit. Relations with JSU and the city of Jacksonville remain positive. Spirit Executive Director, Joel Vincent says, “We are excited about the opportunity to return to Atlanta and look forward to the continued growth of the organization. Our relationship with the city of Jacksonville and Jacksonville State University remains a strong part of the corps’ history dating back to the corps’ beginning and will continue to be an integral part of the corps’ plan.” The return to Atlanta is part of a long-range plan for the continued success and development of the corps. Additional information about the return to Atlanta will be announced in the coming weeks. The corps begins the 2010 season December 4-6 with an open audition weekend for all potential members.
