MikeN
I like the new Cavies uniforms. It's not a huge change, and even though the green center dips lower than the old jackets, the black side panels will continue to give the illusion of extra height. I'm also glad they went back to the white/black-strip baldrics. Missed those. All in all, no problem with those at all. Mike
fholin
The big silver thing on the sash reflects/recalls the iconic silver buckle that we wore on a wide, white belt back in the dim, dark days beyond recall. In 2008, the Alumni corps wore one on a black belt...it was felt that a white one would make all us old f---- look even fatter than we are. It is a traditional thing with The Cavaliers, and, I believe, that age outs are still given a buckle. As to the nipped-in appearance of the green on the front, it seems to emphasize the wide-shoulder, narrow-hip look of the ideal male body. Another thing to realize is that the effect on an individual will be different than the mass effect on the field, from a distance. bawker
Another thing to realize that the effect on an individual will be different than the mass effect on the field, from a distance. . . .very true. The hat (in another picture on the site) really finishes the look off . . .the uniform looks much better as a complete piece. I think it will work very well in ensemble, as you mention. Thumbs up to the redesign, now that I'm able to process the look as a whole.
bearwy
I saw Troopers new uniforms last night. Lots of black on the jacket and no scarves. Interesting. I do not like the belt off the shoulder addition. It hangs differently on everybody and looks "dirty". They tried this a couple of years ago and it didn't work then. The dark blue an black were hard to tell apart. The show is cool!! Very strong for this early in the season. I have a new favorite closer tune. Go, Go F-Troop! Hook'emCavies
Is it just me or does it seem like everyone is getting new uniforms?
crfrey71
THANK YOU FOR POSTING THISI like that it still has the spirit of the last uniform. Not sold on the mirror, though I'm sure there's a reason for it. Not quite sure if I'm liking the black back or the way the top is cut and sewn onto the bottom. Overall I think I like it alright. Can't wait to see the show. The mirror is really nothing new either. They actually look like the cavies of the late 80's in this uni. The mirror was in the exact same spot on those unis when they got them in 84 and I think 1991? might have been the last year that had the mirror until now. MikeN
Here's the Cavies' uniform history over the last 20 years. Man, it's hard to find older images of the corps online. 1991 - removed mirror (Hi Sluggo!) http://slu2ggo.org/Corpspictures/Cavaliers...ofChampions.jpg 1992 - new baldrics (Hi Again Sluggo!) http://slu2ggo.org/Corpspictures/Cavaliers...uggoKlenker.jpg 1993 - same as 1992 http://www.carltonbale.com/cavaliers/cavie2.jpg 1994 - went to black baldrics with metal studs added http://www.dci.org/images/news/2008/09_05_...4_cavaliers.jpg 1995 - same as 1994 (the pic is from 1996 when 50 members of the Cavs went to Japan, using the '95 uniforms) http://www.cavaliers.org/images/photos/200...cavie_12579.jpg 1996 - plain black baldric http://www.dci.org/images/news/2008/01_24_..._topsix_vpd.jpg 1997 - black baldric with added mirror (okay, I'm reaching here - but I had the drum corps mini from that year, so I can vouch this is what they looked like!) http://www.drumcorpsminiatures.com/images/...s/cav-003-1.jpg 1998 - back to the "classic" baldric. http://worldofpageantry.com/gallery/photos/43.jpg 1999 - same as 1998 http://www.corpsreps.com/pictures/99_P7300122.jpg 2000 - same as 1999 http://www.corpsreps.com/pictures/2000_P7250406.jpg 2001-2009 - the "modern" Cavs uniform http://yamahawinds.files.wordpress.com/200...13-019-022f.jpg 2010 - see earlier in this thread. jjeffeory
another perspective on the uni, just popped up on my minifeed.. Ugh, I'm not digging the "shield" shape in the front. The rest is fine.
