GMichael1230
I don't really care if you disagree. You asked me for examples and I gave them. Synths do not take anything at all away from the 'pure sound' or anything the brass performers do, no more than, say, the marimba, or any pit instrument. They are part of the 'pure sound' produced by the corps. I went to three shows plus 1/4-finals at the theater. Why does that matter? It matters so I can tell if you heard how bad it was live. For ALL corps using them....... G
Jeff Ream
Individual corps failures are due to the inability of those corps to survive for whatever reasons they failed, be it finances or lack of members or...DCI's job is to provide a competitive environment and to make sure, to the best of their ability, that any corps participating has the financial ability to not endanger the members. oh trust me, DCI is not totally to blame here. but they are also not totally free of blame either Mike. MikeD
I think that's highly debatable Mike. Had DCI heeded the words of Scott Stewart in 1997 ( I believe ) ... how different would the activity be today? How many corps would still be in existence? Would we even be having a G7 debate?Hard to answer some of those questions .. but in my mind, we would be in a far different scenario in 2010 had we listened ... and for the better by far. I disagree, of course. You can play Monday morning quarterback all you want, but it is all speculation. I prefer the vision of DCI since 97 to Stewart's view, from what I recall reading. We'd be far worse if his road had been followed, IMO.

Jeff Ream
why Mike? The continued extermination of the regional circuits and the push for the global touring model are two huge ones. in fact really the two biggest reasons.

So you think the demolition of the regional circuits have had zero impact on corps survival? You also believe that a full 2 month national tour was in the best interest of every corps and their bottom line? You also feel that every rule change that has taken place since then has had nothing but a positive effect on drum corps as a whole? This isn't Monday Morning Quarterback .. this is 13 years after the fact ........ and watching over 20 corps die since 2000. BTW, that's about 33% of the active corps that perished in the past 10 years. I would say that with shrinkage like that, and the planned shrinkage of the G7 plan ..... the non G7 Directors did the absolute right thing in taking over the BoD. Now all I can do is pray that they UNDO some of the damage that has already been done. Losing 1/3 of your businesses in 10 years is FAILURE!!!!! No matter how you want to look at it ... that is not success.
MikeD
You mean "we"...Your playing Monday morning quarterback, as much as the rest of us. G I disagree. I like the reality of what DCI is and has done, not thinking of an alternate universe based on speculation about taking some other road.
