2000 - 2010 , what have we learned?

Recommended Posts

It's been actually 11 years of shows from 2000 to 2010, a full decade of DCP and DCI, plus midway through the past 10 years add in Facebook, MySpace, tweeting and You Tube. Drums Corps is about as exposed as possible. So, what has been the biggest surprise in 10 years, advancements and huge mistakes???

Only one word needed to describe mistakes: synth.

Beat me to it.

Bb horns were highly debated, but the sound so much better then the G's (not as loud, but intonation is better). Amp'd pits soud so much better when done right and not over amp's. Singing and amp'd voice was a nightmare.

My issue is with mic'd soloists and synth altered soloists. The Bluecoats bari soloist was awesome and so is the sheet music shared on this board, but it sounded unnatural.

Many of the shows up and down the top 12 from '00 to '10 are more and more enjoyable. The emergance of Boston as a power ealy this decade and the resurgence of the Blue Stars as a WC/D1 finalist.

The only major issue is the loss of so many corps in this decade (Patriots, ECJ, Southwind, Cap Reg, Kiwanis Kavaliers, Magic of Orlando, Esperanza, etc.) and one major regional organization (DCM).

I have learned that my marching days have LOOONNNG since passed and that I feel old now. I can't imagine how the dinos feel on here...I mean they are practically placing one foot in the grave as it is.

I guess I have also learned that the switch to Bb's didn't kill drumcorps, nor did the expansion of membership limits (twice), nor did the A&E proposal.....but a major oil crisis, and a tanking economy have had devastating effects on our activity. ...and that's something the DCI BOD and corps directors really can't do much about.
