soccerguy315
So an OC corps that might have an opprotunity to gain donors, and increase their membership shouldn't be allowed to do so because it might hurt the WC corps? Hmmmmmmmmm, deny an OC corps the chance to improve in favor of continuing an elitist mindset in WC.... okay? There's already a huge shadow cast over OC corps because they don't "do the same work" or have the same schedule as a WC corps. Both of these are dangerous assumptions that really point to the question, why do we hold WC corps in such a higher regard than OC corps? No matter the corps, you have people coming together to work their ##### off to a common goal; why deny one group the chance because they're smaller? if you start giving money to corps that don't perform as many shows and travel as far, then you are encouraging corps to perform fewer shows to maximize their rehearsal time by saying the only thing that matters is the performance level in August. Maybe everyone should just stay home from June 1 to August 1, and all the corps can meet up in San Antonio and travel to Indy in a week or two. That would be a good tour, yea? Auditions Turkey weekend in November; camps one weekend a month there after from December to May; Move Ins and Everyday rehearsals for the grueling months of June – July; Then when things are really getting fun, a one week tour with five shows early in the month of August; and here is the best part: all for the low, low price of... wait for it ... wait for it … that's right ladies and germs $3000 per performer!!! > "That would be a good tour, yea?" WWonka
I think your looking to solve a problem that does not exist. If that does happen address it then.
ContraRich77
did the Colt Cadets fold? My bad... ...do they get to travel to DCI? I didn't know that.
BOBSMYTH
My bad......do they get to travel to DCI? I didn't know that. Yes. The Colt Cadets came in 11th pace in Open Class Finals in 2010.
Jeff Ream
Considering the fact that this rule would apply only to TWO organizations, I would have to object. There is absolutely no reason whatsoever to prevent a corps from it's rightful score and position just because they are funded by an organization that also funds another corps. 3. charlie1223
What happens? Well... when they anounce the scores they say the name of the open class a *little after the world class corps. This is usually followed by applause and maybe the ocassional "boo" because the only Open Class corps to do this would be of the Blue Devil variety. bersurkman
Did anyone actually see BDB's performance? IMHO, they were not even close to Pioneer. I don't think there will be any issue.
audiodb
A World Class corps has to grind it out on the World Class schedule: competing in roughly 30 shows all over the country, traveling for a couple of months, etc. What? There is no requirement that world-class corps do 30 shows, or travel for eight weeks. That WC schedule = WC funding. I don't think it's right for an Open Class corps, who has zero intentions of ever moving to World Class in the immediate future, to compete in the last one or two WC competitions. If an Open Class corps bumps other corps out of placements (Semi's, for example) they are potentially taking money away from the WC corps. What money are they taking away from the world-class unit? One appearance fee? Like you said, WC funding comes with the WC schedule. A world-class corps that gets cut in prelims might lose out on one appearance fee, but they still get world-class appearance fees at all the other shows they did that year....and all the shows they do the next year. BozzlyB
I think you can absolutely count on the top few OC corps being quite competitive with the bottom tier of WC. It is far less likely IMO, but certainly possible for an OC corps to push into Semis. Those of you with pipe dreams of an OC corps making the sat night show, well pack another one and pass it around eh?
