Then why didn't the reverse hold true last year, with other captions clumped closer to their 1st place percussion score? Sorry, but I don't buy this theory. (And, besides, I don't expect such a precipitous drop in that caption anyway.) There are NOT enough BRASS judges in DCI. GE music and Music ensemble judges usually come form the percussion world. I remember one show last year that JJ Pep .( percussion judge ) was judging field visual. There seems to be more Guard judges and percussion judges than brass judges judging the GE and Ensemble sheets. Maybe this is why the scores are percussion and guard based ? Bloo (new consistent top 5 but rebuilding year?) 5. Crown (For some reason doesn't win best brass again?) 6. Blue Stars (Last year's staff changes get a chance to settle?) 7. SCV (Percussion *might* be better?) 8. Boston (Probably deserves higher placement?) 9. Phantom (Percussion a sore spot?) 10. Madison Scouts (Stagnate for the time being?) 11. Glassmen (???) 12.
