Lance
Based on what I'm seeing and hearing, the answer is yes. Right now, I fully expect 2011 to be more intent on awesome music overall from top to bottom in dci than in the past decade or so. My half life in dci "fandom" might just be extended a bit.

Based upon the style of arrangements exhibited the last several years, NO. However, the quality of performers is great, and if you've heard some good things, I have hope. ...but based on the overall style of arranging last year, I see no indication that the DCI collective group of corps are going to have an emphasis on awesome arranging. There were some great pieces chosen, and there were several great arrangements last year; but we'll see...

BRASSO
Based on what I'm seeing and hearing, the answer is yes. Did the DCI judges get their copy of The Memo of Understanding on this yet ? Edited March 8, 2011 by BRASSO
Lance
i couldn't possibly care less about judges. most of the time, even if i don't love the show that wins, I can figure out why it won, though. i would be able to do the same even if i didn't care for every single show. i'm talking about what i think about show music this year, and the trends i'm seeing. the way it was going, i would be a fan for another couple of years max. i'm thinking this year might just change that. we'll see.
Jeff Ream
I'm hesitant to say yes or no. Some great stuff has hit the field the last several years, but the arrangement of it was less than stellar. I guess I'll just have to wait and see

3rd Glasgow BB
All we can comment on at this stage is the source music and hope the arrangements live up to the potential come June. So far 2011 is promising to be the most musical year for a while. A trend that will continue...
Plan9
Paradigm shift? Yes. Backwards? Not bloodly likely. And in deference to Lance (our generally-level headed Sherpa on Mt. DCP) I disagree, it's difficult to believe that DC music arrangers of the past decade had the thought ....."Well, here's our musical lineup this year, non-awesome and purposefully difficult to listen to....OK, let's do it!" And I'm just not sure why so many on here think we need to go back to be good.
