WTH? What happened that SCV Percussion is not in the thick of things. Are they being dumped on in scores due in part to the bigger picture with the corps?

Someone else already addressed the fact that they came out more prepared much sooner than the field. (although i disagree about the "Ease" of their show that many theorize. Difficulty is more than just "notes in the snareline" which most people on these forums base things on).

I think their front ensemble and battery both are of top 5 quality with a chance to win it all if they hit theirs out of the park and if the others have a bad night.

To me it has to do more with the amazing quality of the programs this year. It was only a few years ago that you could only look forward to 1-3 amazing percussion programs each year with a bunch of "good but not great" programs far behind. Now I think winter programs have created for talent, the instructional pool has spread out and many groups have really taken off. Same thing has been happening in WGI. Normally in the World class there are 1 or 2 really exception groups, this year it felt more like 7 or 8. We are so programmed to think that if a group is not in the top 4, that they "suck". Not the case! Madison, Boston, Blue Knights, Glassmen, those percussion ensembles may have scored in the top 5 five years ago, but the quality is growing so far and so fast. Take Blue Stars as a full corps. I think they get better and better each year but the quality of the other programs does to. So they ended up in8th place twice in a row and last night were in 10th but with a better show (in my opinion of course) than the last 3 or 4years. The development of so many programs is really pushing things. I find it exciting!

Is the Cadets Angel on mini stilts?

Otherwise, she has played in the WNBA.

I though this earlier in the season, too, but I just think she's that tall.

And new guard unis are coming but aren't in yet, apparently.

The angel character is the only person left in the corps from when i marched...and from what i remember, she wasn't abnormally tall....

I'm not questioning their right to do so. I support their right to do so. Just saying, I was disappointed by that decision.

I understand the theme. Hey, I even think it worked out really well for them. I think it's a little silly to suggest that they couldn't have pulled it off without excluding men from the guard. It's kind of like how I feel about the electronics in Crown's show. In some ways that show is built on the ability to use a piano synth, and they execute the hell out of it, and it's well-integrated into the show, and they way they use it works great with the brass, etc. They are doing the electronics thing well. I'd still prefer to see what they could do without the synths.

Phantom is one of my favorite shows this year. Definitely my favorite music. Probably my favorite guard. It's complicated.

Maybe your wanting a romeo and juliet show. yes they could have pulled it off with men in the guard, and yes they could have been just fine with rifles. But they went a different route, and there is a clear romeo figure in the hornline. So yes, i agree its silly to say they couldnt have done it without those two factors.

oh yeah. Because on dCP, "if MY corps wins, the system works.... but if MY corps LOSES, its because of BS politics and bad judging.". lol

never fails!

Okay but can we agree that polotics does exist, to a degree, in DCI? If so then maybe just sometimes when someone hollars out my corps got beat cuz of politics, they could be right. maybe not this time, but not everytime someone cries WOLF! is wrong.

funny that you got red marked for being right!

So I guess there's just no way that an outcome could simply be the result of the performance and design on the field? Saying it's a political outcome is both inaccurate and insulting to the corps involved and their MM's.

I agree that there is a lot of quality on the field, and yeah, Vanguard's clarity will probably keep them in the top 5 in percussion, but there is no question that their book is easier than the top 3 this year. And no, I'm not just talking about the snare line. I'm not even saying that there is anything wrong with the writing. But there just isn't as much demand, across the board in comparison to BD, Cavs and Cadets.

I was more or less referring to his predictions, in this specific case i do believe he is wrong as to why those results happened, i dont believe it was politics at all. In fact i think thast night was the closest to agreable scoring for a majority of people yet this year. My argument is, that, politics can be a factor sometimes. but more often than not, its not a desiding factor.
