Michael Boo
I've been asked by a corps to suggest possible selections from the symphonic realm (orchestra or concert band) that are patriotic in nature, but not the standard patriotic tunes we typically think about. I've come up with Morton Gould's "Symphony for Band—West Point," but can't think of any more current. I know there's a piece out there about the invasion of Normandy and I thought there was something about Iwo Jima. Does anyone have any suggestions? glory
Without regard to its suitabilty for drum corps, I always thought William Schuman's "Be Glad Then America" was a wonderful winds' tune. There may be more in the Schuman book too. I doubt corps have done much more than "Chester" from his list. HH
