DCA Accepting Bids For 2014, 2015 World Championships

Recommended Posts

hearda rumor today Allentown is looking to submit a bid.

Concerns are:

Hotels....it's the Fair time of year

parking....kinda sucks already, and with the Fair, those lots are out of theability to get

rehearsal facilities....schools will be in session Friday, and worse, as it is nowfor DCI East, corps are scattered up to 2 hours away...towards Harrisburg, down by Philly into NJ. I cant imagine someone with a 3 PM performance time at prelims wanting to drive up from outside of Philly

the stadium....seats fine, field fine when redone this summer, but amenities suck. Plus how will DCA run the fan network for prelims when DCI can't even live stream DCI East?

Everyone's been making suggestions but according to the original article they were accepting between April 1 and May 1...it appears this thread has run longer than the bid process.

Completely agree with Jeff, and thought I'd emphasize what, to me, is a deal-breaker.

Concessions? Awful.

Restrooms? Beyond awful.

Weather turns ugly? You are completely screwed with a capital S.

But what if it's not held at J. Birney Crum as everyone seems to be anticipating? What if it's held at say Lehigh University football field? The Philadelphia Eagles

hold their camp at Lehigh and the fields, many of them with probably enough for every corps to have their own! And parking is more than enough for 10,000 cars and

lodging keeps popping up all over the Lehigh Valley. And let's not forget that the new Sands Casino is just over the hill from Lehigh stadium and could possibly be

used as the venue for Friday nights activities - they have a huge venue, large mall, and casino! And finally should it rain, there's Stabler arena a short throw from the

stadium. These are just my thoughts on someone bidding for Allentown. Since I live in the Lehigh Valley and participated in the past at several shows at J. Birney

Crum, this could be a big possibility for whomever might be submitting their bid.

That would be a better choice than J. Birney Crum, no doubt. IMO of course.

That gets MY vote! I live less than 15 minutes from the stadium.

Lots of wonderful restaurants in Princeton.

The good news...most schools have not yet started in the area...they usually start right after Labor Day. The bad news...don't know about getting access for housing, though. That is always tough. We tried to get our admin to let us house a DCI corps in the summer a few times...for just one night. They always had an excuse why we could not do it!

OTOH...there are two DCA corps very close...Bushwackers and Windsor Regiment. They may be able to help find housing.
