Rumblings from CADETLAND

and yet the corps, including drum line, wore the stripes for the Erie parade last weekend...

According to my sponsorees, Hopkins told the corps that the matter was under review; at the April camp he told them that the new pants would not be ready until just before the first show. So old pants would be worn for Erie, with stripes. Then all the other corps started adding stripes.

One negative reason for without stripes is perhaps the cost factor. Another reason against is a visual tick highlighter. But they do have tenure for several decades and perhaps have earned their retirement.

I guess we will have to wait until the first full week of contests to see. :music:/>/>/>/>/>/>

I hope they keep the stripe. Kinda makes them look like robots...that's just my opinion though.

Well news out of Johnstown is that even despite the weather, great progress is being made for a rather intense fan-friendly, judge-friendly show in the spirit of '09, 11.

Tom Aungst and Colin MacNutt both in these weeks to work with percussion section.

Visual specialists have been making great strides with show learned through the ballad.

Corps has posted several dozen recent photos from camp on FB.

Seen are the 16 towers: colorful to say the least!!!

Show theme is obvious from pictured drill.

Non-rifle loopy things are also seen. Video of parade performance in Erie had them being worked similar to rifle work.

Guard also working with long, long poles and very big flags.

There is hype, and then there is excitement. This seems like excitement for MMs, staff, and audience alike. See for yourself.

A few of the pics drilltech1 was talking about:

So in 2002, they called their rifles "commas". I wonder what those "rifles" are called.

According to someone who has been to Johnstown's camp rehearsals, the instructors refer to them as "loops." (refer the handle.)

The kids, sarcastically irreverent, call them "fruitloops." :-p

I am also told that they have some moves that rifles cannot do that these can.

Cadets just put a ton of spring training photos on FB. Well I haven't seen any of them. Good stuff.
