Feed Problems

Recommended Posts

* awards worked for everyone I personally know who got the feed

* the YouTube awards (i.e. the tunnel cam thing) worked great for me for awards

* Boo's commentary/live blog worked even better: was a bit ahead of the video feeds & worked great for me (I had that on so I could text my wife the results + the YouTube cam so I could hear the crowd go nuts)

Perhaps if you had problems it was on your end and not DCI's :ph34r:/>

I am talking about the stream DCI advertised for the results and encore. No link was ever posted on DCI.org.

I had to check and see if DCI was trending on Twitter, the posts were piling up so fast....and Facebook was flooded around 10:45 with complaints about paid and unpaid stream.

The tunnel cam for awards? LOL...yeah great media strategy for DCI...as someone said on the Facebook page, this kind of thing is understandable in 2005 not 2013.

The problems most had were a result of issues with encoding at the server site. The issues weren't at Lucas Oil. I can't speak for end-user issues, as I didn't have any of those...just the skips and restarts everyone else seemed to have. It got MUCH better about half way though the show after an obvious server restart.

I did all of the tests, wasn't me. And based on wat I saw here and on Facebook, I was far from alone. it did get better in the 2nd half of the show ( though there was a skip in BD, even after i rolled back).

DCI needs to address this. Big time.

Perhaps a petition should be started in order to get our collective frustrated into one place? I don't know, while $70 isn't exactly a ton of money, for a family man, it represents a tank of gas, or a few bags of groceries, or a family night out, or a couple birthday presents, or a bill paid, etc., etc., etc....

Instead of that, I invested into what I thought would be a fun night at my house with my fellow drum corps friends. Sadly, the only fun we had was playing the drinking game we made up in order to stop being so irate that we were watching the first 15 seconds of Blue Stars show for 15 minutes. Even when I rewound it on Sunday night I was unable to watch 12-6.

Yes, the feed kind of cleared up for the top 5. But what about all of those parents, friends, family members, and school programs that threw down the cash to see a loved one perform in the bottom 6 groups? Pretty weak sauce if you ask me.

Anyone out there going to attempt getting a refund? Perhaps we hit them with a united front?

Thoughts?

Maybe they should get BD's MediaBox team to take over Fan Network...

I sent numerous copies of my complaints and requests for a refund to every department available on the Finals Support page as well as to Fan Network support. My complaint also included a second refund request for the Buffalo live stream debacle. All I've heard in the way of response is crickets. It could be I haven't heard back because of the number of complaints they've undoubtedly received. But that's giving them the benefit of the doubt as my Buffalo complaint was sent on the night of that show, a show that will live in webcast infamy. I will complain with my wallet next year, or lack thereof...

The remedy for this is to roll back the progress bar. I rolled back 15 minutes and had no issues streaming...it's a buffering issue with too much data being streamed.

No, that didn't work during the show for me. I had skipping problems, hundreds of them, from the start of the stream until Madison Scouts. Their show was in low def but without interruptions, and there was one final short bout of skipping before Cavaliers started, and then everything was just about perfect for the rest of the show. During the first five corps (from SCVC through BK), I tried rolling back, 15 min., then 20 min., then a half-hour, as the site suggested --this would have been around the time they disabled their help button-- and it made no difference. In fact, when I took a look again at the stream after the show was over, there were still skips in Spirit, Stars, Boston, and Knights.

I emailed DCI requesting a 40% refund Saturday night. They have not yet replied, nor credited that refund to my card.

That would be awesome.

In my opinion, the 2012 championship encore performance was the best edited DCI show ever! It's a real shame they took it down though.

Nothing on my end, but I believe DCI takes the week off after Finals, so probably wouldn't be for a few more days.
