mingusmonk
No seriously. i loved that show except the closer that did not go with the rest of the show at all. I hear they added that because they couldn't use the original choice. it was s total non sequitur. it was just a stupid popular song the dullards would drool over and frankly it ruined their show. Wow. The is the air thin up there? I don't consider myself stupid, or slow, or unimaginative, as you suggest (then again, I suppose most of us dullards don't). But ... still drooling. I totally drooled over it, and I'm reasonably sure my D.M.A. qualifies me as not quite a "dullard." You were born in '62. No one expects you to like hip-hop and that's ok. What we do expect is to show respect to someone else's art form.
offbeat
I'd love to see more mainstream incorporated into shows. The arrangers & designers are talented enough to present shows in the alternative, country, hip hop, R&B, Pop etc, idioms without "dumbing" the music down. Lyrically and Phrase wise, a lot of that music is just as challenging, ensembles just do a poor job of pulling it off. I'd also like to to see a corps do a Jazz show that incorporates the major jazz element of improvisation in the music and drill. Wouldn't it be something to follow a corps throughout the season and hear and see a somewhat different show every performance? Maybe a Jazz meets Zyklus type of thing. camel lips
Not sure if it's considered mainstream but I always thought the music of BOND would be great on the field.
Huntington Mallets
Gorillaz. Especially the entire demon days album http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IgTblIgm3g0 Not totally sure how you'd start the show, but Dirty Harry would make a good portion of a 2nd movement (starts at 14:20 El Manana would make a FANTASTIC ballad. (starts at 22:22) FireComing Out of the Monkeys Head and Demon Days write themselves in terms of a closer. (start at 49:00) Great music. TwoValves
Surprised no one has mentioned fun! yet. Some of their production seems tailor made for drum corps moments. I am beginning to think of them as a modern-day version of Queen
xtreme0204
I have been listening to macklemore's new album. I really think that some sections of can't hold us and BomBom would work really well. The brass players really are doing some complicated things in it. Second show- trombone shorty. If you don't know of him, check him out.
