Cavaliers 2015

Recommended Posts

Cavaliers simply need a framing device to build emotional resonance into their ending. At the beginning of the show the guard sets up a statue which is the guard frozen in place in a pose-- just like a statue. The pose is seven guard members in jogging position and hoisting one runner whose fist is in the air as if crossing a finish line triumphantly. The statue dissolves and disappears.

Then at the end of the show, there's a slow motion marathon race to the finish line, one jogger falls in pain, grabbing his ankle, the other seven players stop, all in slow motion, go back and pick the injured runner up, hoist the runner on their shoulders, just like in the statue, and they freeze and rotate the statue toward the audience in the same position as the beginning. End.

I actually like that. It's much more on the surface than some of your other crazy ideas :)

Just to recap, this year's "crazy" fixes are:

Cavies: Statue of "finish line triumph" bookend device.

Carolina Crown: Break through the red silk to define the ending number as a triumphant escape, otherwise we think we're still in hell. (Alternate, costume change underneath red silk.) At the end, the guard's flags are replaced with live torches with real fire.

Cadets: Have a hint of Russian period costuming to the French Horn soloists to give a badly needed historic context to the show.

Boston: Use red caped queen as the throughline, give her a solo dance.

Phantom: Gradually change photo panels in front to black and white as we regress to 1870; the show is a reverse timeline. Cut Coco at the end; everyone black and white at the end in 1870, girls are ballet dancers at the end.

Blue Devils: Final number includes making the shift from the left side zero yard line across the field as a book cover closing, beckoned by the Pied Piper/Magic Flute guy. All characters return to their respective books at the end and pop back in.

Madison: Gotta dance character becomes the sophisticated Gene Kelly Character by the end. He's matured, just as in the movie.

These are fixes which elevate the existing themes of the show and provide final state pictures with resonance and completion.

Not that some of this cant be food for thought for someone who actually is in a position to do something. BUT You are either a very frustrated designer OR a 16 year old with all the answers to the world. That happens alot especially in winter programs. SOME kids get 1 year experiences in some HS and think they should be teaching SCV. or BD and know everything they do wrong.

Maybe you are neither

always interesting posts though..lol

To find a video when Elaine finally meets Vincent. There don't seem to be any available online.

That's actually a lot better ending than Boston has right now. Seriously, what show changes would you suggest? You don't have any, do you?

You certainly are so full of suggestions and questions. First you say that corps members should question everything, then you ask who read "Dante's Inferno" and then you are asking me if I have any show change suggestions.

Cavies are getting better, getting cleaner and trying to make their show theme more clear and readable. Its really too bad because that is a top 5 level hornline and drumline and they have just not being given the vehicle to move forward this year. the improvement is this corps is among the most noticeable in DCI over the past 4 years. Hope they can salvage a 6-7th place finish and make a better push in 16.

Wow, I was liking the improvements this season but they were filthy last night.
