Forgive this ignorant question, but how is the board chosen and president? Why can't they be fired? They themselves have to how bad things are. Are they trying to sabotage the corps.

You can obtain a copy of the SoA BoD bylaws for the specifics to that board. In general, nonprofit boards have bylaws governing the recruitment and election of board members. Those procedures may vary from corps to corps and from nonprofit to nonprofit, but if the board conducts periodic audits of the organization, the auditors will examine the board composition and governance, making recommendations when they deem it necessary. Otherwise, the board is answerable only to the public at large: Either the board creates a product the public wants to buy, or they create a product the public ignores. And by "public," I mean potential corps members, potential staff, potential ticket-buying customers, and potential sponsors and underwriters. A corrupt board with ill intent will put the corps out of business all by itself. If any of the shenanigans involve the corps' exemption from taxes, the IRS will take an interest, too.

Typically, the president of the board is selected by the board members, again under the procedure specified by the bylaws. On many nonprofit boards, a president is not directly elected, but "ascends" to the position on a prescribed timeline after having served in other board-officer positions such as Treasurer and VP.

Board members, including the president, are volunteers. They cannot be "fired" in the sense of losing their job. They can be removed from the board -- again, the bylaws usually spell out how this is done.

The corps director is hired by the board. He or she is the one who can be fired.

Then maybe the board will fire the director and start from scratch again next year

The kids will suffer once again thanks to some ridiculous decisions at the top of the board. Who knows what obsticals they present. That woman is the reason it won't get better. Just one more random thought. The 3 toed sloth is not my favorite animal.

Unfounded news about executive changes have been tossed about. I've confirmed with SoA that no changes have been made as of yet.

Ok. I will pretend that I didn't talk to anyone within the organization who told me the news and I will wait until they put it out officially through the proper channels. Wouldn't want to violate any "Terms of Service." Thanks.

. True, but when emails have gone out to alumni and folks in Atlanta are working towards a new director hire as we speak, I'd say it's probably fine to discuss. There are lots of "in the know" folks on DCP, especially for certain corps like Spirit. There will be many more changes forthcoming again for a corps that just can't find a way to create stability. Feel for those kids..

sorry all. be reminded that registering multiple accounts will get you banned from DCP.

Please bear with us while we fact check. Until then I am going to lock this thread and put a hold on any ongoing discussion. Once we do, we will edit and/or reopen.

should be a short intermission....thanks for your patience.
