Oh how we in drum corps presume that the world revolves around what we do.

I'm not sure, Garfield, whether the open roof/closed roof or the black curtains are the bigger effect on the infamous LOS acoustics.

But if I remember the history of the DCI shows in LOS specifically, the curtains orginated with Circque, were found to be successful with other concerts using LOS, and then were adopted by DCI and expanded over the years there. DCI audience benefitted from the other audiences struggling with acoustics for their enterprises.

Beyond the aural component, there is the visual aspect to be considered. This is particularly true as all attendees will be seated only in the lower field levels of 100s and 200s on the one side.

What can seen clearly from the stands (judges' view) and what is effective when it is seen may change when viewed against an all black backdrop or against Indy Colts blue seating.

Crown has been challenged that the black hats and black shirts against the black back drop give the illusion of floating heads....maybe appropriate for inferno. The same illusion doesn't occur against bright blue seating.

The flag colors and the props also have been chosen (with Finals in mind) for a black-backed stadium. Those colors look different against Indy Colt blue seating. Another way of understanding this is to imagine the prop boxes the Cadets are using as mini-stages and which they have covered in the green numbered material. Now imagine if the corps was competing at Boise State or the University of New Haven with their blue turf fields. The current prop covering color would have to be changed to blue.

Sometimes I think you are a DCI judge.
