Liahona
Calling it "Concert Band" is sort of demeaning to the performers. It has nothing to do with the performers...it is the HORNS..ie equipment that is the root cause...perhaps concert band is not fair....but it gets the point across... Perhaps marching band without woodwinds would be better suited. Regardless, I have no problem with the switch. I may be young, but my first DCI show was 1998. I remember what corps sounded like then and now, and I personally have no opinion in the matter, as regardless of which key the instruments in, how many valves, etc. it will always be Drum Corps to me. These instruments are in same key...B-flat..which is what modern drumcorps plays in now...I'm not saying go back to g-bugles...I was saying add the B-flat soprano and B-flat contrabass to the line....It was just a suggestion..not an order....LOL Edited August 24, 2016 by Liahona
Terri Schehr
Didn't 27th have a french horn solo in almost all of their shows back in the 80's?. The Scouts did in the '70's. Dennis Drews. I guess the song was right. Everything old is new again.

UKSuperman
Contrabasses seem to be what's needed the most, since corps are starting to rely on synths for more of an "umph" from the low brass. I don't think sopranos are needed just yet. We already hear too much of the soprano voices and not enough of the authentic bass voices.
