DawsonBurnes
Just curious of what you guys think. I consider a good DM to not only keep tempo, but to also show emotion and different things added to their performance (cues, etc.). (not really sure how to describe that last part) *dates are from their time as head DM Here are some of my picks: David Warren- Phantom 2014-16 Willie Veenstra- Bluecoats 2013-2015 Will Pitts- Phantom 2005, 2008 Dean Patterson- Phantom 2011-13 Kendall Stevenson- Cadets 2014-16 Jon Cao- Phantom 2010
84BDsop
Having been one... Being the DM is far more about leadership than about the arm waving. What you're really looking for is the best on-field conductor. That being said... Stuart Schulman from SCV (early 2000s) comes immediately to mind...a bit of a robot, but you could see the intensity even then. The DM from 2016 Academy was a joy to watch when he was emoting....especially in the closing sections of the show..GREAT showmanship. And I'd be remiss if I didn't mention my own 84 BD Ds, Gary Zinter and Brent Kline.
fireshane1
Roderic Saunders - early/mid 90's Phantom Regiment. Tommy (Andre) Feagin - late 90's Phantom Regiment. Marched with him in '98. Hell of a conductor and a great guy.
xandandl
I agree with so many of the picks the OP and posters have mentioned. Ben Pouncey (Cadets 2009-10-11) definitely must be included, particularly for 2011 in leadership role on and off the field and for his podium presiding . Check the Finals vid. for that A&D night where he aces all facets, the corps takes first, and he is awarded the Jim Jones award as well. Evan Van Doren (at least 2007 at Crown) must be listed. Young man at Academy this year also should be noted. Edited November 7, 2016 by xandandl
Bucbari
Would anyone object if I threw George Parks into the discussion? I know DCA but a real legend.

MaestroBen
If you're looking for someone to cue every single cymbal crash in the pit, you have to go with Al Go, Blue Devils 1992. If you've never watched that show and watched him, do it. Now. It's amazing.

Jurassic Lancer
Joel Alleyne, Oakland Crusaders 1975-76. Joel was a show unto himself while keeping total control over the corps. He was pure entertainment and you gotta love a guy who hangs his hat on the US Open's eagle trophy.
