Star of Indiana Questions

Recommended Posts

Crowns great, lots of ties to Star. They arent even near Star though, their shows arent anything like Stars, barring a few minor throwbacks.

What are some qualities that would make a show "like Star's"?

In case you didn't know, there is significant Star DNA at Bluecoats as well. Maybe even more so.

First of all, an absolutely killer mellophone line, like theirs in 1991!!!

Jim Prime arranging (harmonics and style) and awesome mellophone lines.

Otherwise, they were known as the chameleon corps, having a different style almost every year of their existence. Closest shows to one another style-wise

were '90 and '91. Every other year was quite different than the others.

Differing uniforms every year.

Differing visual people frequently.

Now if Crown would just do a Belshazzar's Feast show.... Pretty please with sugar on top!

In my mind, "Carolina Crown" is very much the spiritual successor to "Star of Indiana".

They're different though. Can't wait to see some old school Cadets drill writing melding with Klesh writing and that hornline.

I am patiently waiting for that too.

The deep, rich, textural, sound of the G's in the brass line, particularly in the soprano voices, for starters.

So no, there is no future DCI Corps that will ever have a brass sound quite like the Star of Indiana once did.

Yes, a start up group called Ignition drum corps from Indianapolis who wasn't approved for open class in 2016 but performed as a Soundsport unit over last summer. There taken 2017 off. Hope they have a bright future. Indiana needs a drum corps. Great high school marching bands within the state.

Hey, thanks for that info about an Indiana corps. Tough name. But here is the link with a short message about not fielding a corps in 2017 due to some financial re-thinking (I think).
