Popular Post OhioBoy_99
Just got home from the show! Everything is always better in person! With that said, here are my thoughts for the shows! Crossmen: One of my favorite shows from the start of the season, loved their opener and they were quiet louder than I was expecting from them and I was pretty impressed with them! However going on after the mandarins, there was a noticeable difference to me in performance levels. I think they're right where they should be placement wise compared to the competition around them. Mandarins: First time seeing them all season, live or video and was VERY impressed with them. I've been reading a lot of hype about them and didn't know what to expect but they grab you from the start and don't let go. To me this was the most intense show of the night! Liked them better than Blue Knights Blue Knights: Haven't been a fan of the show for most of the season and that didn't really change tonight. They perform very well though and I must say I do like there ballad a lot! I like the back half of the show better than the front half. I don't see Mandarins passing them but I feel Mandarins have a better show. Cavaliers: This show has grown on me A LOT from the beginning of the season and is starting to become one of my favorites for the season. In my opinion, the horn line was the most gorgeous of the night to me and their mellos were to die for and the crowd was loving them. That section of the show when they're all playing that repeating passage of music and building up to the big chord is a highlight of the show for me! Boston Crusaders: One of the best and well put together shows of the season to me! Great hornline and marches the most out of anyone on the field! That ending with the waves was the best of the night and one of my favorite parts of the show! I think they're where they should be at placement wise, and I called them hoping over Cavies again tonight when I saw them. Carolina Crown: Carolina Crown is Carolina Crown. Great brass BUT I dont think Crown has much of a lead if any in the brass department over Bloo, SCV and Cavies, just to my live ears at least. The show has grown on me and I really love the music in the show. I just don't think this show was right for them. Not really a fan of anything after the Ballad either. With that being said, still an amazing group who are performing their butts off! Bluecoats: The most fun show of the night and let me just say, they were the LOUDEST of the night. I loved every moment of this show. Had a very energetic run tonight and very good crowd reaction. I might be a Bloo fan but in my honest opinion, I think they're being overlooked in quiet a few sections and shouldn't be as far behind SCV and BD as they are right now. Santa Clara Vanguard: I was never getting all the hype around this show. I will say, seeing them live made me like the show more than I did before but still just isn't my cup of tea. There performance level is what is carrying them to me because that is top notch. Ballad was amazing I will give them that. Don't think they should be running away with this thing as much as they are though. Hope I don't strike any nerves! Have a goodnight! 6 6

N.E. Brigand
It's that delightful day when I don't have time to read or post much here because I need some sleep between attending Massillon today and getting a few hours in at work before driving to Michigan City for O.C. championships. So I'll try to return to this thread later in the week. It was a great evening. A couple quick thoughts: 1. I love how in Cavaliers' closer they have the guard step over the hornline, a reversal of a classic image of years gone by. 2. Don't sit on the side one 30-yard line for Bluecoats or Santa Clara Vanguard. Those were the only two corps who sounded notably out of balance from that position. In SCV's case, the corps sounded like a mallet section with occasional brass accompaniment.

I didn't see you post in time to take the pic, but it's EXACTLY what you would expect; his jaw nearly hit the ground! Mandy's were great! I'll be wearing the Reading Buccaneers' tie-dye tee shirt from their 2014 show. I'm really sorry I missed you! I left the computer just after posting (two.5 hour drive) and once I got to the show the phone is shut OFF and for me, time is just meaningless. It's all about being in the moment and enjoying the show.

I think if all goes well in Massillon...perhaps a 96.350 isn't out of the realm of possibility. Vanguard - 96.3 Ha! Show off.

The souvie area has been moved directly behind the will call at the front of the stadium. Lines to get in should be interesting. HUGE line at 7:30 for Will Call. They delayed the start by 10 or 15 minutes which was perfect for me as I was able to get seated just as the USMC was about to take the field. Man, did the crowd love them! They got an extensive long standing ovation from a wildly appreciative Ohio crowd!
