I think it's a testament to how little musical substance there is to the field show horn book without the pit and electronics there. Why else would they skip most of it and play these things.

What a disaster for Regiment. There’s nothing better than Elsa’s. Just play that and get out of the way.

I probably worded it badly - I mean the horns by themselves can't play the show music through because nowadays so much of it is just slow builds and "blats" (to coincide with guard catches usually). The horns would probably spend 5 of the 10 minutes not playing and marking time if they were doing the actual show music without the pit.
