Then we have nothing to talk about on this topic.  You just gave up the 'farm'!

I'm glad that you don't believe that Crown is made better by their use of electronics.

Not at all, as you are imputing to me an argument that was not mine.

My argument has always been that they sound better without the electronics/amplification, hence the comment that they sound better during encores.

That's doesn't make it all good.

I, personally, can't stand collegiate marching bands.  Can't stand them one bit.  It's not about the numbers.

dude college band is a giant mob of goof offs. That is not a good comparison.

Just to clarify I never compared balances from 70s to today. And easy button was not meant to be triggering. It was a smart aleck response to the posts saying how much electronics was needed for the best blend. To me the more put on electronics means the less the humans are being relied on

I'm not calling you out specifically, it's been a long thread with various similar points being made.

I think a better way of looking at it, is that the electronics are doing things that *humans could never do*. They are addressing issues that were at best mitigated by live performers and design, but never fully dealt with due to the realities of performing on a field/in a dome.

Neither can my son.  6 years in DCI, but he won't set foot near his college band.  I don't blame him one bit.

When it becomes sound through 20 speakers instead of sound from 80 musicians I'll be out. Don't even have to worry about placing bets. At that point I can do the same thing at home with the equipment I have for half the cost of going to see a drum corps show.

Did you see the video of the Cirque du CLOWN? He had more than 20 for that application, I have not counted what he has for this "reinforcement" application.

No problem I was just checking in case my posts were unclear (like that never happened before lol). Been a good conversation especially since I work IT.

Will not name the College but I went to 1 rehearsal after marching DCI all summer - I quit that day on the spot. I felt bad because the director had held a snare spot for my friend and myself and scholarships. But the amount of just pure stupid stuff was too much for me. The "drum captain" had the entire DL spell out F OFF on the field while the director was working with the woodwinds. I did not feel the need to participate and everyone thought I was the dummy. LOL .

Curious to hear all these shows without amplifications and hear how they live up to how it was before electronics were allowed. I remember watching BD 93 (still my favorite horn book) at finals and they were so full of sound. 🤤

Lmao went to a Division II school and dad of band director literally wrote the books on drill (A R Casavant). Son refused to have more than 150 in the mb as “too many people get in the way MY drill”. Yeah I see huge MB’s and I watch the drill like “ok move that big block then move that big block bfd “.

Then you are aligned with essentially nobody (by my quick estimation) in this thread with respect to your cause for disliking amplification.
