You had me at Nina Simone.

I had no idea she did the original Please Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood, which I've more associated with Santa Esmeralda and, by extension, the Cavaliers (1979-1980).

Didn’t know anything about the lady’s music until SiriusXM started playing her on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame channel (310). 👍

Can't believe I'm saying this, but I'd love to hear a good vocalist do some work on the Hozier song.  His rendition that he did at the NY Subway with minimal instruments really made the vocal pop for me when I heard it.  I know Mandarins will bring the drama.

It's a great tune.  Here's one stripped down but with better acoustic/recording environment.

Not to be outdone.  The drama Nina brings to a live performance.

I really really really hope they nail the polyrhythm in the percussion.

There's so much about these charts that can make for an absolutely electric show.

If they really wanna raise eyebrows...they could work a bit of this passion in there somewhere...

One more link if you're just discovering Nina...

a full set of classics live.

Don't miss the "Go Limp" for how hilarious she could be with folk songs too.

  • 2 weeks later...

Talked to my son. First half of the show is on the field.

Staff gave the kids some free time during one of the blocks as they are ahead of schedule and the staff is very pleased.

My son said there is no breaks in the first six minutes of the show. They are hauling butt and really moving out there.

Can't wait to see the show.
