Orwellian Wiress
Just now, KVG_DC said: Two nights in a row the hat was nailed on til it comes off! When I was watching the girl in red's hat came off and a guard girl behind her picks it up. Is that supposed to happen?
Musicman1084
Mellos sounding a little wild starting off. Still plenty of show to get it under control.
kevingamin
After this opening statement, which includes a very impressive mellophone run, we go into the Univers Zero section of the show. You may recognize this group from the 2015 Bluecoats show, Kinetic Noise, as they used another selection from Univers Zero as their closer. The style is very similar. Very effective use of side to side on the field, both visually, with the “sinners” in red on the right playing the melody first, followed by the “saints” in white on the left answering, before the red members fly into mesh with the white for a great visual contrast.
kevingamin
An absolutely RAUNCHY muted trumpet solo standing on one of the props, joined by a trombone soloist. The rest of the props start spinning behind them, all lined up on the 50. The music’s intensity builds as the horns come to the front, and the crowd roars in appreciation.
DrumManTx
Mandarins muted trumpet/trombone moment with the corps weaving through the spinning props into that last hit before Smile is one of the best constructed musical/visual moments I’ve seen in a hot minute. SO GOOD.
skevinp
This show has come so far since I saw it in Mesa.
kevingamin
All of the horns are now in red as we move into the Smile portion of the show. Great exposed playing by the drum line while underlying a recording of somebody singing Smile. We move into a more jazzy section of the show. A lot of notes happening here, along with a great bass line by the tubas. Really getting a lot of volume up here, even though the plexiglass, so I can only imagine what it sounds like down there.
