Here’s a hot take… I feel like there was a Rubicon that was crossed in 2016 because of the bluecoats. I like the organization of enjoy their shows but what they did in 2016 with all the extra things on the field i.e. the big skateboard ramps, and all the extra equipment they had. That stuff cost money both to purchase and carry around, they were rewarded for that but then it became. Let’s keep up with the Joneses and the activity we saw scaffolding, huge ramps, platforms, any number of things obviously the stuff has to be carried around and maintained along with all the electronics. Probably not a popular opinion, but it seem like the measuring stick changed to try to keep up with that sort of thing.

The rubicon crossed when spring training became a 6 week budget item staying at colleges and using their food services and shuttling people in and out because of real world needs.
then coming out with incomplete shows

Thinking of the old joke about government spending: a billion here, a billion there, after a while we’re talking real money

In corps case it’s: couple thousand here, a couple thousand there, after a while oh ####.

Uniforms are also only about $150-$300 a member retail. Not to mention sponsorships which can bring that cost down to $0

Those who think uniforms are an issue only say that because they don't like modern uniforms

$200 uniform x 150 members = $30,000 in uniform cost.  It all counts toward the bottom line.

It’s a pretty smart fundraiser, when you think about it, since it has a broad appeal that has nothing to do with marching band or drum corps. More corps should be looking for those types of opportunities.

Incorrect. That 2.6% bleeds into other areas of a balance sheet and income statement. That 2.6% cannot be viewed in isolation.

Spot on

Why does this conversation always devolve into issues about cost, and revenue is ignored? Bob Cook tried to give this lesson 40 years ago and he was ignored. There needs to be innovation in the revenue model.

Well unless you have a large board with real world access to financial contacts that can grow revenue any corps will struggle and right now I’m only convinced 4 corps have that.

and one wasn’t a G7 corps

So another cost item is brought up and your response is to blame it on people’s prejudice
