Best Baritone Soloists

Possibly it was a bari. As I said, I can't recall etc.. I didn't go to many shows during the 80s and quite possibly he did play a baritone in that number. Cupcakes, anyone from the Hurcs during that era?

Ray

Was that a French Horn solo during It Don't Mean a Thing with Hurcs in the early 80's?

I've listened to this like 10 times now. You can hear that BD hornline sound despite the non-optimal recording technology used. I could almost swear the solo bari sounds like a french horn.

Eric was pretty phenominal....and still is. He's on the BD alumni CD that recently came out. Playing his trombone, although this time the tune was reworked so Eric, Jeff Lynn, and Adam Rapa had extended solos........Pretty killer recording.

God, those contras. 10 K90's played by 10 muthas.

We marched 8 contras back then, and given the time of the recording, there would probably have been anywhere from 4 to 7. Contas never filled up until June back then.

That poor soprano who has the solo near the end hanging out there all alone...

If you knew him, you'd rub his nose in it. We did :D

LOL! That dude deserved whatever he got for that!

Really only 8 contras in 83? Man...they sound great even on that early recording. I'm gonna have to get that alumni CD.

I love the Bari soloist from Bouree this year that the Cadets did.  :grouphug:  that was wonderful playing.

Another great soloist from this year was the bari soloist during SCV's ballad.

Favorites that come to mind:

Dean Dukes - Florida Wave - '86, '87, '88

James Hosmer - Phantom Regiment - '87 I believe

The soloist in Suncoast Sound '85

Mike Wessling - Vanguard '86
