arrangerx
I had the condensed score with correct time sigs from the original Paul Winter notation for his small group. Basically just chord changes and time sigs. . . the opening is in 10/8. . . with snippets of 5/8. . . 12/8. . . Opening piano lick = 000 000 00 00 groupings of eighth notes = underlying rhythm of dotted quarter, dotted quarter, 2 quarters. . . repeat pattern. . . It's a fun piece to work on. . . I got to do it for full symphony accompanying Paul Winter's actual 5tet. . . FUN!! Chuck Naffier
Hrothgar15
Found this topic randomly and decided to go through and see what the drum major conducts. All times are based on the finals recording. 0:57-1:44: 10/8 (stutter step, downbeat on 1, 4, 7) 1:44-2:08: 4/4 2:08-2:16: 12/8 + 10/8 (stutter step, downbeat on 1, 4, 7, 10, 1, 4, 7) 2:16-2:29: 10/8 2:29-2:41: 4/4 2:41-2:46: 10/8 2:46-3:03: 5/8 (slow section, stutter step, downbeat on 1, 4) 3:03-3:05: 10/8 3:05-3:14: 12/8 + 10/8 3:14-3:22: 10/8 3:22-3:27: 4/4 3:27-3:47: 3/4 3:47-3:57: 5/4 3:57-4:04: 3/4 4:04-4:10: 4/4 Seriously. Imagine a corps, any corps, doing this today! Kind of a long shot, but if any members that year still have their sheet music, that would be incredible to post. kdaddy
Seriously. Imagine a corps, any corps, doing this today! This is exactly what I was thinking when I was going through your list. One reason is that very little music is that complicated. The other would be visual proficiency scores. How did Xmen score in M&M that year? Northern Thunder
How did Xmen score in M&M that year? They were 6th field visual/8th ensemble visual, 8th GE visual.
Hrothgar15
They were 6th field visual/8th ensemble visual, 8th GE visual. Some of my favorite drill ever though (and three totally separate time signatures in this clip)! https://twitter.com/DrumCorpsClips/status/688134102558453761 Edited June 7, 2016 by Hrothgar15

N.E. Brigand
Seriously. Imagine a corps, any corps, doing this today! It's not quite as complicated, but looking to DCA, I was a mite bit puzzled last year trying to work out what the time signatures were in some parts of the Hawthorne Caballeros show, so I reached out to Kamarag, who let me know that (1) in the opener, there was section with 5/8-7/8 alternating, right before the tempo jumped to 180 bpm, and then the first two-thirds of the 180 bpm section is in 5/4-6/4 alternating, with a 3/4 section thrown in, before returning to 4/4 for the ending; and (2) the second movement's first two-thirds had a series of alternating 11-count bars (alternating 5/8 and 6/8), then it switches to straight 5/8 for a few bars, then 4/4, followed by six bars of syncopated 3/4, and then 4/4 through the ending, but still with an unbalanced feel. I hope I got that right.
jwillis35
I have to go back and listen to the original (Paul Winter I think), but I always thought it was 6/8 + 2/4 for theme 1. Just listened to it again. I think it is 5/8 for the main theme. But it is constantly changing in other areas, with 4/4 and even some 6/8 in there.
