liebot
I think "bandos" (that is, people in high school marching band that have not yet marched corps) are underrepresented on this board. Seeing as how most marching bands are more progressive than most corps (speaking in terms of amplification, electronics, vocals, props, etc.) I think the population at shows is in fact different than that on DCP. kdaddy
Seeing as how the poll is based on opinion, I don't think it's proved anything. Except that more people on DCP thought Cavies 02 was better than Cadets 05. That doesn't necessarily mean that they're correct. This entire thread is based on opinion. The original author of this topic as often used subjective words when describing why Cadets 05 is "superior" to Cavies 02. It's all opinion. And, by the way, DCI judging is also heavily based on opinion.
Jeff Ream
Maybe, but I think you'll find a similar consensus within the drum corps community regarding this issue. Most intelligent drum corps people I know and respect don't even think it's a contest.Different strokes, I guess. you can say that, as we did ( and amps actually have the evidence) and people will still not agree. funny, the Cadets are the dissenters in both cases :P oh well..shave and a hair cut...big ticks! Byron
I posted a poll a while ago asking if people thought that idea was actually true. Most feel it is false.Poll thread 77% of people who actually go to shows, and take other people to shows, feel that most people at shows are in fact not the musically illiterate "average joe football" that some claim. And the 2 largest groups of people who go to shows, band kids and alumni, are exactly the same kind of people who post on DCP. Imagine that. So the feelings of DCPers have a very strong chance of being reflective of the opinions of most fans. well of course you got those results....you asked on DCP.... musiqman205
cavaliers is awesome but the zone was innovative both shows had their strong points
rut-roh
eh, 86 BD was better :P And you're cracking on the Cavaliers drumline??? Try listening to some of the nasty ensemble brass releases (of whole notes for crying out loud!) in the 1986 Blue Devils. And not the cool kind when a jazz soloist intentionally hangs over. If you're gonna try and encapsulate an entire performance based on two or three seconds of a show, at least be consistent.
dbg
this might have been said already but I don't have time to read 18 pages of postings. My opinion boils down to this. In 05' Cadets won every caption. In 02' Cavies did not. They had a forth or fifth place percussion section. The visual and brass carried the cavies in 02'. In 05' Cadets entire corps was on top in visual, brass, and percussion. Winning every caption is not done very often. (I think it may have only happend 3 times in the history of DCI, but I am not positive). So I think it has to go to the CADETS (plus I had a former student in the Cadets tenor line so I have a bias)
ScribeToo
Precision and consistency aren't factors of entertainment or engagement (not that Frameworks wasn't entertaining). ... for you. For me, precision and consistency is part of what makes a "great" show from a "cool" show.. and both are certainly something that grabs my attention and holds it.. and when it's done well it launches me out of my seat.. THOSE are some of the things that gauge "entertainment" and "engagement" for me. Stef
