OH MY GOD!!!

I have been involved with drum corps (in one form or another) for over 30 years, and I have NEVER heard of anythig like this before. <**>

These activities warrant charges of reckless endangerment, child endangerment, etc. Bus drivers hired without background checks or drug screening??!!!! WTF!!

The IRS, State Attorney General, State DOT etc should ALL be investigating this.

If DCI has a "Black Book" ala the Nevada State Gamming Commission, Rick B. should be in it.

(FYI, the "Black book" is a list of persons who are permenantly banned from ANY involvement in a casino whatsoever.

(No playing a game, running a game, or even setting foot in a casino gamming area.))

All that being said, I have a new found respect for the members of CR. For you to continue to perform when in the midst of everything that went on, is

EXTERMELY commendable. You dedication to your corps is amazing. Best of luck in 2007.

How many corps currently have this problem: "Bus drivers hired without background checks or drug screening??!!!! "? This is not limited to CR. This is a big problem in all of drum corps.

"maybe the Ohio D.O.T. would like to hear how a staff…. From my knowledge of DOT operations they can throw the director in JAIL for doing this...and the ramifications could be cataclysmic for all of DC. You do NOT mess with DOT; and Ohio DOT in particular" Looks like, sounds like, smells like blackmail to me. He has his $4,100.00. Time to close up shop and quit while you're ahead.

Blackmail? Please explain.

Right, because it was all about the money -- not about the safety of the kids or any of the other issues mentioned....

If my kid was being shuttled around the country by uncertified drivers, you're **** right I would get the situation fixed HOWEVER POSSIBLE for the safety of my child and all future children who may endup in a similar situation. DCI itself should also be concerned, not only for the obvius reasons, but from a liability stand point as well.

If only there was a way for Rick Bays to be released from Capital and had somebody who cares about the members step in.

There is. The Board of Directors would release him because he failed to manage effectively.

If Capital Regiment is really this poorly run, the responsibility goes to the Board, as they're the ones charged by the state with having final determination over how the corporation conducts business.

Not anything like blackmail, IMHO. You have a responsibility BY LAW in most states to report youth endangerment to the authorities. And yes, DOT CAN prosecute on purely criminal charges of knowingly allowing unsafe and unqualified operations of commercial vehicles...due to the lethal danger they can be. I know...I have been at one time a commercial driver for several years.

Following legal recourse is not blackmail; and in this case it is also CYA. And quite frankly, with youth endangered, I would have reported it myself if I had observed it. Thus endeth the lesson...

If you are that concerned about your kid's safety, then go out and get your CDL and volunteer your time. Every corps out there that I know of will pay for the fees. This is where the problem is. Nobody is volunteering their time, yet, will be the first in line to complain when things go wrong. The best approach would be to help fix the problem. Every corps out there is in need of CDL licensed drivers. Every corps will do what it takes to get the corps down the road with what limited resources are out there. Hey, I can refer you to someone who will pay for your CDL certification if you will drive for them for a few weeks during the summer. For more information, send me a message. I'll be glad to hook you up.

I have seen something similar to what is happening at CR, but not in the same severity. We had bus drivers leave with out telling us and been fed substandard food. But to hear what is happening is just sickening.

It is shocking to know that this happened to a corps, even in these times. I couldnt imagine this happening. I am sure the Dan Acheson and the DCI execs know what happened and are going to do something....at leats I hope.

I am wondering this as well. I hope DCI has a handle on this, because all that a state DOT would have to do is to know that there is a show in the area; and set up an enforcement sting to pull over every corps vehicle that comes out of a show. I have seen this in other states...and if I was not in compliance, I would be concerned. They arrest unlicensed and major out-of-compliance drivers. And could conceivably lodge charges against both corps and possibly DCI. If this is not addressed at this time, DCI had better, quickly.

He also emptied his bank account so we could make the trip to Madison in 92.

He loves the kids!

No sir, I do not have my $4,100.00. That is why I have chosen to take the route I have. We received all of that except for $1,702.67, which is still a sizeable chunk of money to me. Would it not be to you? Also, maybe you misread a post or something, because even what you are quoting did not come from me, that was a quote from someone who was telling what the DOT could potentially do after I spoke about it initially. I do not disagree with that person, simply because he is right, and it involves safety of the corps members at the same time.

Look, I am not blackmailing anybody, and I never even intended for this to end up on DCP, but somehow it did anyway. I am simply trying to salvage what is owed to me from the corps, but somehow this was brought over here and turned into a thread full of stories and various information about the corps and the owner/director which even *I* had no idea existed in years past. It is clearly evident there are problems, and I can assure you DCI is becoming aware of all of this. I have also taken the proper steps to contact DCI, as well as parents, and even members. I encourage any of you that have contributed to this thread to do the same, or nothing will change.

Sorry for the misunderstanding, and thank you to all of you for reassuring me that I am not losing my mind about all of this. I'm sorry many of you had to read these things, they are even still uncomforting to me, despite living through most of them first hand. And again, I never intended for this to end up on DCP, but it did. I'm sorry for that. As you can see, I rarely post here anymore, but I am so glad that there is still a friendly and reasonable group of individuals over here to recognize the topic at hand. That's one thing I learned this summer, drum corps is truly one big family.

I may or may not be here in this thread again, so please everyone, be smart in how you respond to this topic. Thank you.
