I wonder if the new stadium at Princeton U would be possible...or decent...it hold 27,800 in a U-shaped structure...

Mike, I've wondered about the new Princeton stadium myself (Palmer Stadium). On the surface, it seems like a good-sized fit for DCA championships, or perhaps a super-regional type of show.

Of course, there are a lot of factors besides just the stadium. Hotels, practice fields, parking, and:

Whether there are any Panera Bread locations nearby. There is a Panera in downtown Princeton, so I'd be good to go! :P

Scott, I believe that was before they built the new stadium. I marched there in 1982 (National Dream contest that year)

with Sunrisers at the old stadium. The new stadium is a whole lot better than that old one. So's the football team. :)

Wow! You marched Sun and played French Horn? I'm impressed!![/size OK so you are NOT gay. So help me here, Fran!!!]

I have to give a big two thumbs up for the turf. I don't belive I've had the opportunity to march on that specific type, but I've been aware of it for a number of years through my rugby admin duties and had been very curious about how it would be to march on it.

Marching defiantly in the rage of Ernesto like so many other competitors, I was impressed by the turf and its excellent drainage even while I was marching and playing. The missing yard lines? -- It was pretty much a level marching field. All of us dealt with rain and most corps had no lines to use.

I look forward to aught seven in Rachacha. However, PAETEC is simply too small. DCA is growing and we need a larger stadium. I'm open to Rutgers, Princeton, DeKalb, Winston-Salem or any other stadium that can handle us and provide in-your-face.

I didn't like souvies being stuck at one end. I sure hope PAETEC folks fix the drainage in the souvie area.

Pressbox -- Froze my butt off. Pressbox and VIP suites -- Hope they'll be done next year. 'Tis more important to build more and higher seats.

Stadium food? Have no idea. I never had time to eat. Chowing down at the Dinosaur BBQ got me through Finals after working the Alumni Spectacular. Fantastic place!

The police and most of the stadium folks were phenomenal. I saw one gentleman denying parents from following their daughter out of the stadium. I escorted them to where they wanted to go. The stadium guy was simply following instructions. To me, it shouldn't be a big deal which gate a corps member enters before or after their corps' performance.

In defense of Scranton law enforcement: The Moosic City police did become Much more cooperative, but it took a major incident to bring that about. I prefer Rachacha for numerous reasons...Just want a bigger stadium.

Parking sucked. Simply not enough...yet.

  • 2 weeks later...

We parked all right, never too far away; Taxis worked in the rain. Cops were friendly as all get-out...we traded some good shots as they got us through traffic...way fun.

I did not like the seats at Paetek Park for the duration.

As for another location, I think the event should stay a bit west...maybe even Buffalo, Erie, Pittsburgh or into Ohio to make it just a bit easier for more corps from further afield to take part. Drum Corps really stopped being a purely New York-New Jersey activity about 60 years ago, but you might not always know it *G*

Thanks for giving Erie a mention here. Those who have performed their know all to well it is a great stadium. Up close and personal with the fans. While great for any DCA show I'm afraid it's not quite large enough on the concert side for a Championship. I think it's about 5,000 max. on that side and space for the expected amenities may not be large enough.

However, I do like wearing colorful shirts, I like to shop, and I love show tunes.

Not that there's anything wrong with any of that. b**bs
