Notable Non-High Guard Drum Corps

Recommended Posts

Some of my favorites over the years:

1982 Blue Devils - that guard was just so far ahead of the curve

1985 Vanguard -wow - just wow

1986 & 1987 SkyRyders - their rifle line alone in '87 was just so incredible

1988 Blue Devils - not a hard show by any means - but they just did everything so well and fit that show to a "T"

1987, 1988, 1989, 1990 Dutch Boy - just because they were "the show"

1992 Crossmen - that guard was a huge step up for them

1993 Blue Knights - those "kligon rifles" were hot

1993 Madison - an honorable mention for getting through their show so well in that downpour!!!!!!!

1996 & 1997 Phantom ('96 gets more love, but '97 was just as great)

1997 Madison - the Pirate show - great weapon line

2005 Glassmen - another really strong weapon line

2005 & 2006 Phantom (I'm guessing the next "dynasty" of high guard awards are coming their way soon)

I'm sure I'll think of more later

Later,

Mike

2002 Blue Devils. Outstanding and competent in a wide range of style and emotion. Execution was the best that night...should have won easily.

1983 27th Lancers

Absolutely 1983 27th Lancers. Forced to conform and adapt to "current" trends, the guard went to a new look, new equipment, and new style. By August, they had mastered them all and handled their entire changes with poise, class, and command. Work was hard, unique and executed flawlessly......this whole show is so overlooked and underrated.
