N.E. Brigand
Keep those instruments clean, says this article from the BBC, lest mold get in your lungs with (rarely) fatal consequences, although it seems less likely for brass than woodwinds players.

flammaster
Ooooooh! that is a scary thought. I got to changing my bike water bottle often or just freezing it after smelling one and getting a slight mold stink. I tossed it and got a new one. Peel Paint
Yeah, I've seen some pretty disgusting organisms come out of brass instruments with a good cleaning. Don't even want to think about what could happen with a woodwind instrument. /shudder

UKSuperman
Reeds tend to mold quicker than anything. Sax and clarinets can get pretty nasty, if not cleaned regularly. A quick swab will do the trick. Mainly just cleaning out the condensation that built up inside. I've never had anything nasty come out of my brass instruments. Now that I come to think about it, that's strange how an instrument with so many different nooks and crannies is cleaner than one that's pretty straight and open.
