DCIbrassplaya Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 (edited) Discuss 2009 Carolina Crown's show “The Grass is Always Greener” Edited June 30, 2009 by DCIbrassplaya Quote
corpsband Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 Can you feel the love tonight? The peace the evening brings The world, for once, in perfect harmony With all its living things oh. and HONK !! Quote
Hrothgar15 Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 As you can tell, I'm very opinionated about drum corps. I know why I like the shows I do, and I know exactly what needs to go into a show for me to consider it a masterpiece. It seems that lately it's almost as if Crown has been asking me what exactly I want to see in a drum corps show, then not just meeting but exceeding those expectations in ways I never thought imaginable. This year is no exception, and may possibly top their other recent offerings, which until I saw this show I didn't think was possible. I'll never forget the experiences I've had seeing Crown perform live, and I can't wait to see what this show will bring when I see it live next week. What's your guys favorite part of the Crown show this year? Mine would have to be the big push in Puck One, or the entire Storm section in the opener. Quote
soccerguy315 Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 good luck crown! hope the success continues! Quote
chris ncsu Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 Haven't seen this year's show at all. But I've more or less really enjoyed Crown since their existence, and especially since their climb beginning in 2003. It's made me very happy to see them climb. I don't particuarly like them beating my corps of choice (HNC), but kudos to them for doing so. Phantom and Crown are the only current top-tier corps (Phantom, BD, Crown, Cavies) I can be not-too-sad about when they beat HNC. :) Fav show of their 'comeback' -- in.trance.it. Quote
MikeN Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 So far, it - more than any other show - has the "feel" of a championship show. Mike Quote

It brings huge goosebumps, or elephant bumps if you will, all over my body hearing that phrase from the '06 show!!!! If/when they make changes to the ending, I hope they keep that part in!!! Quote
dbc03 Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 So the other two threads with a ton of posts and active discussion were closed because there is a thread buried on the 3rd page with 7 posts in it. Sweet. Quote
Tommeee Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 I love their show up until the last few minutes when they pull out "Over the Rainbow". It is sappy, and the style of it just doesn't fit with the rest of the show. The theme might fit, but the style does not. And in drum corps, the song is a Cavalier trademark since the 1950's. It rubs me the wrong way to hear it from Crown. The corps needs more of their own identity, in my opinion. It kind of makes me mad, because I see it as a lost opportunity. If it weren't for "Over the Rainbow", I would be totally loving this show. What I do love is the way they perform! And the aggressiveness of the drumline! By the way, anyone in the Crown organization should consider this, and any other comment about the show, as a compliment. I think it's the ultimate compliment when your show generates a lot of discussion, whether it is good or bad! Quote
