  8. Even that's not clear. DCI, DCA, and BOA all clearly had been securing mechanical and synchronization licenses, or they would never have had bothered snipping out those shows or portions of shows (like "Empire State of Mind" in Madison's show) for which they could not get the rights. Edit: I see Kamarag has said much the same thing.

  10. Our first camp was a great success! We began contracting the hornline and set a very strong foundation for our inaugural season. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8kfZWldUFo&feature=youtu.be We are still recruiting members aged 14-25 in all sections. 12. You'll enjoy the corps this year. If you saw them last year, and their improvement from previous seasons and throughout the 2015 season, the 2016 corps will will show even more movement in those directions. This is based on what I saw at the January camp. As for recordings, leaks, etc. I can't do that. I will say the show may be based on the same Broadway show as 1999, but it's not a tired rehash at all. Boerma and company are taking a fresh approach this year.

  14. I heard BD is coming out and snares will have no sticks and not play entire show. "It's NEVER been done!" exclaims percussion and effect judges. Win percussion, effect and take another title. Cadets and Crown come out triple tonguing while backing into rotating forms flawlessly and fall to 4 and 5th place.

  15. It's all subjective. But I will state that doing bug stomp swivel hips 20 times in a show means you've cleaned a move so you can stand in formation and get credit for ONE thing used over and over. Not saying it's not hard but it's the same move over and over.

  16. The only difference is that my man character would not put on a microphone and scream "This is the circle of life!" Do you even get what we're talking about? We're talking about being "on the nose." For example, in a show about why kids are passionate about drum corps, you don't angrily scream, "I'm passionate about drum corps!". "This I believe!" Get it? You don't scream the thematic argument at the audience. That's such amateurish, preachy WGI melodrama. That's just leaves no room for subtlety or complexity, no room for interpretation, no wiggle room for the audience.

  18. Second tier because it’s the uniform marching /playing that I enjoy. It’s more impressive to me. A snare solo bores me, a line playing that same solo well impresses me…the degree of difficulty between the 2 is huge, playing together in unison is simulations demand which, is now being taken for granted . 20 horn players playing 20 different things at the same time....that's what this visual style strikes me as, ekks As a 'Guardguy', are you impressed by a snare line dancing, Taken on its own, not excusing that it’s snare drummers ? I’m not. It’s a noticeable drop in quality compared to a real dancer. it’s a simple dance poorly executed and why shouldn’t it be, they are a snares drummers after all. But as a fan, why do I have to accept this lessor quality as being better? Not to mention how watered down drum parts are now compared to the days of yore, this simultaneous demand comes at a price and it’s the writing of the drum book that's paying it. So I'm get poorly dancing drumlines playing wimpy parts, awesome, give them 100 points, who really wins here? To be clear, I don’t object to this style existing as long as there are other styles what I object to is this style being reinforced by the way it’s rewarded, a de-facto compulsory that's killing off the types of shows I do enjoy, as asked in the OP, is kaleidoscopic drill disappearing from DCI? This individual style seems really made for DVD’s and now that those are missing, perhaps we’ll move on to the next thing…back to a show designed for 1 viewing from 70 rows up, where this style falls completely flat

  19. but it is when coupled with other things. and thats the key.....simultaneous responsibility. the more you layer demands upon the performers, both playing and moving, the more credit you get than just running around the field for 11 minutes,. now if you can run, play and do all of the other stuff i described in 11 minutes...bingo. there's no compulsories, they don't clock you for how long you run. Just show you can do it, do it well, and move on. BD's had this approach for several years and has mastered it. others have begun to follow suit more and more.it's not rocket science.

  23. Regardless of demand, it’s less entertaining, more so if you sit up high, a lot of it is lost so how is it good GE? And when everyone is doing something different, such as different characters, I’m not impressed at all. It’s annoying that DCI has decided there is only one type of show, one type of demand that it will reward well, I’d prefer some variety So, every few months we get a post asking; what are good shows to capture outsiders peoples interest,…it will still be the run and gun as opposed to a close up of a baritone doing a poor-man’s mime of a 'windy day with umbrella', which I think dorks up DCI to the point of being worthy of mockery.

  24. Completely agree on the uniform and in the drill density last year not taking it into consideration. The uniforms are really nice. The drill however got muddy

  25. To be honest, I thought it was boring when I heard Phantom play it in 1998, and I thought it was boring when I heard Cadets were gonna be playing it as well. I still think its boring even though I like their arrangement. But I'm allowing myself to be open minded about it because Cadets are playing it and I'm wondering what this show is gonna be about. Yes I know, I'm biased.
